In a bulls forum... an annoying bulls fan was saying he'd take rose over roy any day of the week. I think its actually a decent debate but i think id take roy. So i ask.... Rose or ROY if you could choose for the future.
Brandon has already pushed his level of play into superstar territory, but Rose could have the potential to become one of the best point guards in the game ... I'd call it a push; you could make an equally compelling argument for either.
The fact that it is somewhat of a decision shows how good Rose is and could be....thats a really tough one. PG's ARE more desirable....very tough choice. Roy is obviously the safer bet
Clearly you take Roy. He's a 24 year old proven superstar. Rose has potential, but he's not there yet.
Roy is taller... stronger... and one of the most complete players in the game. Rose is going to be special, but so will Brandon Roy, and Roy is from the Pac NW. I'll keep Roy. He isn't going to leave for greener pastures.
It depends how you look at it.. both are hell of good players.. one was taken #1 in the draft.. and looking back at the draft.. the other was the best player and if done again today would probably be taken #1. Both have bright futures. And both seem to be big game players.. from an emotional standpoint and for what Roy has done with this franchise, I say Roy. But I would have no problem with a Bulls fan saying the same thing for Rose.
I love brandon roy. In fact, hes my favorite 2 guard in the league and one of my favorite players period. But if I was starting a team, I'd take Rose. The point guards in the league now are unbelievable, and with another crop including Ricky Rubio, John Wall, Brandon Jennings, and others in the next year or two, a star PG is extremely important. Rose is big enough and quick enough to deal with anyone from Chris Paul to Deron Williams, and once his shot improves, he will be a legitimate superstar. For the next year or two, give me Roy. After that, I'll take Rose
But isn't that all the more reason to have a top notch shooting guard? When most of the top prospects coming into the draft are point guards, isn't a young, superstar, shooting guard in high demand? I'd be happy with a defensive specialist at the point and Brandon Roy carving up defenses at the two.
Roy, easily. Rose could reach the superstar level, but Roy already has. And yes, Rose has great positional value as a point guard, but Roy mitigates a fair amount of that by being such a good distributor. He just does it from the shooting guard spot. I wouldn't even consider trading Roy for Rose.
None-sense. And strange coming from a fan of a team that did not have a top-PG in a long long time - yet was very successful. What you want is someone that can control the pace of the game and impose his will on it. If he is a PG, SG, SF, PF or C does not matter. At this point in the game - Roy does a better job of controlling the pace of the game and imposing his will on it - and I suspect that his size advantage and ability to break the defense down even against top-rated half-court perimeter defenders will not diminish - this does not mean that Rose is not fantastic - he really is - but we have seen that it is easier (at least so far) to stop Rose - as Nate McMillan has shown in the Blazers/Bulls games. Which super-star PG lead his team to a championship since Isiah Thomas? Billups won one as the best player on that Detroit team - but I do not think he was at the time or today considered the best PG in the game - they just had a fantastic balanced team going against a dysfunctional Kobe/Shaq duo. Parker won the finals MVP - but he was not the best player on his team that year - that team still went as far as Duncan took them. On the other hand - super-star bigger wings that can control the pace of the game seem to be a much more valuable commodity in the NBA - MJ, Kobe, LeBron. I love Rose. He is the 2nd coming of Deron Williams - and could even be better than D-Will when all is said and done - but I still think that Roy will have more of an impact in the long run - he is just harder to control because of his size and strength.
Derek Rose without question. He's just better. And even if he wasn't it's like DaRizzle said, point guards are more desirable.
I love Rose and at the start of the year I really wanted the Blazers to get him in last years draft. I didn't think we would be 41-41 without Oden and I thought Rose would be a top 5 pick not #1. Even really liking Rose's game and seeing how well he has played this year there is no way you take Rose over Roy. Roy is a top 5 player in the league. There are only 3 players in the league I rather have the ball in the last 2-3 minutes of a game - Kobe, Lebron and Wade( and it is a lot closer then most people think with Wade). Roy is a superstar clutch player that can carry a team to a title. Some guys are great in the regular season but not great playoff guys when teams have a series to really key on you and have several days to plan a scheme to stop you, also the pressure of the playoffs. I thought it wouldn't phase Roy and it hasn't, once the pieces around him are a little better and more experienced he's going to lead us to a title IMO. I've always felt like Roy is almost underrated even by Blazer fans. Sure we know he's our star guy but people don't realize that there are only a couple other players in the league that you'd rather have the ball at the end of a big game. LeBron, Kobe, DWade, that's about it IMO and Kobe is getting older and DWade has only a slight edge on Roy and if Roy improves much more (which he might) I think he might jump over Wade. Long story is I wouldn't take anybody but Lebron for Roy.
Roy without question. For all the reasons above, plus Roy's personality. He has become the face of the team and bonded with the city in a way Rose wouldn't be capable of. At least, not from Rose up until now.
Talent wise they are about even. I would take Roy for the intangibles, better leader and team player IMO
Is that sarcasm? Rose wasn't even remotely as good as Roy this season. Obviously, he'll improve, but he's currently way behind Roy. But in all this Rose love, here's an interesting point: Rose: 16.0 PER Oden: 18.1 PER Rose was far more valuable because he played many more minutes than Oden. But when each was on the floor, this season, Oden actually was more productive and efficient. And factoring in defense (which PER doesn't really measure) only helps Oden. Rose had an utterly electrifying game 1 in the playoffs, but one game doesn't make him a transcendent superstar.
Rose had a great game 1 in the playoffs which is why this is even debatable...but...didn't Roy...just trump that...with 42???
