Actions > Words especially unwritten words I often watch games with the sound off listening to music as many announcers (including Portland's) seem to just to blather on with anything to fill their airtime. What I mostly go on is what I see and that doesn't agree with what you're saying is the unwritten rule. Driving players do barrel into defenders who are going strait up and it's usually a blocking foul and even moreso when the defender is jumping... thats why the driving player does it. STOMP
No sound? So you don't hear Lamarcus Aldridge yelling "ahhhhhhhhhhh" everytime he shoots a fadeaway jumper? That's how he lets us know he was fouled!! P.S. Does that ever work? Does an official ever hear a guy yell and say, "oh, I guess he WAS fouled - better blow my whistle"???
I have no idea what you're seeing, or even if you know what you're seeing, so I can't comment on that. What I have seen and read actually is consistent with what the 08-09 Referee Guide right off NBA.com says, and what a number of people close to NBA teams have reported regarding pre-season official-team meetings.
Aaron Brooks is wayyyyyy overrated by a lot of you guys. Yes, he's had a couple good games, but in the final month of the season, he only averaged 9.9 ppg & 2.5 apg (1.75 tpg)! Blake is steadier than that and over the course of the series, you will see that. You guys would HATE Brooks if he was our starting PG.
Brooks is not nearly as good as he's been in this series. The Blazers just don't match up well with him.
Sometimes if a star player complains vehemently enough, another official will run over, the two officials will confer and change the call.
I was just perusing the Rockets forum. I really couldn’t help myself. Naturally, 98% of the posters believed they got jobbed by the refs and blame them for game 2’s loss. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/forumdisplay.php?f=9 There’s an official “I hate Joel Pryzbilla Thread.” Also, they seem to have taken MAJOR offense that Blazers fans/announcers referred to Joel and Greg as the “twin towers.” Their main gripe seems to be that Joel and Oden havn't earned it yet, both offensively and defensively. Maybe there's a bit of truth to that... from an offensive perspective. I would have embedded some direct quotes, but I just took nyquil and my brain can't figure it out.
Wow just wow...... I realize that we whine about the refs a lot.... but holy shit that's a lot of whining. That's epic whinging. They make Laker fans look classy in that thread.
hey, I don't know if your face has ever seen the light of day from it's normal habitat... true story! I do know that I linked the rules and you referenced some sort of innuendo of unwritten rules and a secret memo that you claimed dictated a series years back... sounds like an X-files episode. whatever dude... don't worry about clutchfans. it's garbage. and it's huge. much bigger than here which means many more dumb people. i mean right now at 2am houston time there are 187 members logged in.
What are the better HOU boards? I am registered on clutchfans but I'm a Portland fan so I don't want to get flamed or post anything too controversial on their board... Is there any other one out there?
i don't really know of other ones. some of the other rockets posters here or at bbf might be able to help you, but i'm not sure. i posted at clutchfans a little bit years ago, but never really liked the place. i prefer places with fans of other teams there as well.
Their photoshop the playoffs thread was amusing; this was the best find: http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt184/amandusvb/blazerspast.jpg
It's bizarre how nobody in Houston seemed to care about "Flopzilla" until we actually won a game against them in the playoffs. More than anything, their complaining makes them appear nervous and uneasy. And how bad is it that they are all pretty much basing their stance on Joel after watching 2 games? As far as I'm concerned you cannot pass judgment on a player until you have watched them enough or they clearly show a history path of consistent behavior. I don't think Joel has done the latter and I don't think the Houston fans have watched enough blazer games this year to give him a fair shake. But it's the playoffs and as far as I'm concerned we're clearly at war with Houston now. Does Przybilla flop THAT much though? It makes me wonder if I'm more homerish than I initially thought because I don't think he flops very often; rather, he frequently places himself in a good defensive spot on the floor. He uses his body better than nearly everyone else at his position. Then again, if I was guarding Yao in a playoff series I would also probably try to flop a few times since I wouldn't be able to defend him the whole game anyway.
i don't think he flops that much, but instead is a very heady defensive player that over the last couple years has gotten a rep for standing his ground and taking charges. taking a charge and flopping, despite what shaq will tell you, are two different things. joel gets in good position and takes a blow to the chest and goes down, that is a charge. now on yao's fourth the other night, he flopped but only after he had been shoved in the back a few times on rebounds and couldn't get the calls. i love how they are calling him out over there for being a pussy, but don't realize the guy trains in kickboxing in the offseason and would beat the shit out of any one of them if they wanted to get in the ring with him.
Guide to flopping: If you like the player, or he's on your favourite team, he's "framing the foul." If you don't like the player, or he's on the opposing team, he flopped.
