So that doesnt make Dirk any better at defense. He is a bad defender. Face it. To say he's better at defense than Kobe is plain ridiculous.
Kobe is not a good defender either. Watch the games instead of spouting off the media <Censored> which is getting old. Dirk is much improved on defense and is no longer a liability. He holds his own and doesn't let people shoot wide open 3's like Kobe does. Bell is going to have a big series. Just wait and watch.
How many all defensive teams is Dirk on? Exactly.Bottom line is Kobe can turn it on and stop anyone guard in the league. Dirk can't stop any premier player.
Kobe is on a defensive team because he scores a lot. Dirk still has the reputation that he doesn't guard anyone which was true a few years ago but it is ridiculous to still say that.

That made no sense.Dikembe Mutombo, Horace Grant, Theo Ratliff, Doug Christie, Bruce BowenNone of those guys score alot and they made the NBA all defensive team. Watch some Laker games and you will see Kobe is a phenominal defender.
It's easier to make the defensive team if you score a lot. It is proven. Unless you are a defensive beast you need to score to get on there.
Guys, stop arguing like girls. There is no true defensive specialists in the NBA today aside from a few exceptions. Yes, that means Kobe, Wade, Dirk, Bosh, ect. are not the best defenders. Yes, Kobe and Wade plays good defense but not good enought to shut down people on a daily basis. Dirk made huge improvements to his defense, but still not a top tier guy. To deny that, you have to be a foolish person. No one can stop anyone anymore with the handchecking rules, thats why its called team defense. All Piston defenders are overrated by this misconception. Pistons play great team defense, but one on one they get abused. Thats why Shaq calls out Ben Wallace every year.
No, Wallace gets abused because Wallace is only 6'9'' and Shaq is 7'2''. Ben is 240lbs and Shaq is 325lbs. Of course he gets abused one on one (although Wallace has played Shaq pretty well one on one in past). No one in the NBA's history, except for Hakeem Olajawon, has been able to guard Shaq succesfully.Kobe has proven on many cases he is a lockdown defender when he wants to be. He did it against AI, he did it against T-Mac, he did it against Ray Allen, etc....
Ben Wallace forces a lot of turnovers from Shaq, makes him run the court, and dominates the boards against Shaq. What else can you ask for anyone guarding Shaq? Also Ben doesn't get much help on defense. Something most teams are forced to do.
I really never got the notion that Ben Wallace D's up Shaq that well. In the 04 Finals Shaq had 34 and 11, 29 and 7, 14 and 8, 36 and 20, 20 and 8. This year he had one of his best games all season against Detroit when he had 27 and 10 on 12-21 shooting. Maybe Ben Wallace forces some turnovers, but he really isn't the dynamo many say him to be

Up until this year the Pistons were a half court team and RARELY ran the break.

With Kobe on there. I don't feel like looking it up but in general people get more hype on their defense if they are scoring. Diop hardly gets noticed because he doesn't score.

Admit it you are a Dirk hater. Dirk is a average defender. Anyways you always put your superstar on the weaker player to avoid foul trouble so the defense isn't that important. It is the role players that will determine how good your defense is.
Why? You saying Dirk is a better defender than kobe is hate.I said Dirk is only a good defender in his sleep. He is not a good defender on the basketball court.
Kobe hands down :worthy: kobe is just better at everything i hate it when announcers say wade is better than leBron snd kobeit drives me nuts
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (LakersFan247 @ Jun 2 2006, 09:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>also remeber that wade is the one working out with kobe in the offseason, not the other way around</div>That's because the young ones always learn from the old washed up players... it wouldn't work the other way around.
