I don't mean to sound like MARIS, but are we hurting our team by going away from what got us here? Our depth. Travis and especially Rudy fed off of Sergio throughout the regular season. Maybe we need to give Sergio some run just so everyone can relax and play like we used to.
I don't mind giving Sergio his usual run at the end of the first and to begin the second. At least see if Sergio is on his game or not, especially when we have to resort to seeing Travis jack up misses and even Channing Frye get into the game. Give Sergio some burn. It's too bad though that his days seem to be numbered here.
yea speed, he also had 14 assists in one quarter, so he gets a pass from you forever. your opinion means nothing to me at this point.
Fuck my opinion. Look at the boxscore. Blake got 10 assists, several of them setting up our bigs for easy baskets. He shot well. Scored 16 points. And held Brooks to 3 of 11 shooting. Those are facts. Do they mean nothing to you?
Blake's defense is better than Sergio's. From watching all 82 games this season, it's pretty easy to see that even though Blake's defense might still be crap, it's better than Sergios. Plus his impact on the offensive end is greater, so there's really no reason to play Sergio. Why should we give him some burn when we know he's going to do worse?
sergio isn't afraid of going into the middle of the lane to collapse the d and kick it out to wide open jump shooters. take a shot with no one around you, then take one with a guy right in your face. much easier to make the uncontested jumper. this is what sergio brings to the table. blake doesn't play that good of defense and he hasn't all series. he does much of the same shit on the defensive end that sergio does. they both switch on every pick and neither has the foot speed to keep up with brooks. i'm not saying bench blake and don't let him off, but if the offense is stagnet why not let sergio in for a little run to mix things up. our offense tonight was a JOKE, those are the facts and it isn't getting any better.
Stop worrying about the box scores so much. I actually agree with you that Sergio should at least get a bit of a chance each game to see how he can do, especially if things are stagnant, but your arguments get old really fast.
I'd like to see our rotations go back to what was getting us the wins, that's for sure. I dont understand why its all changed up in the play-offs, its apparently not helping us win games.
sergio's offense has been under rated the last few weeks of the season, he was getting to the paint and making those little tear drop jumpers and making some shots in the paint. he's been much better towards the end of the year when he decided not to try to be a 3 point shooter.
This isn't the series for Sergio. Houston is way too smart in the way they play the angles on passes. And with Chacho's inconsistency with his shot I actually doubt Houston would collapse on Sergio, they'd probably leave Yao around the hoop to play goalie and have a single help defender funnel him into the Rocket's big man. If this was against a team like Denver that gambles on defense or any other team that doesn't stick to good fundamentals of team defense, then I agree that Sergio might be able to get some good open looks for his teammates or otherwise beat the pressure.
I think Houston's D is so tough, it negates Sergio's strengths. He is better in the open court, chances to run against the Rockets are far and few between. I actually think Blake had a pretty good game last night. I wouldn't mind seeing a small quick line-up out there like Serg, Rudy, Trav, LA and BRoy.
Sergio is too much of a liability on defense. It's that simple. He either fouls his man right away if his man is driving towards the basket, or he simply gets beat thus resulting in one of the Blazers bigs having to pick up a cheap foul to stop a wide open layup. Then on offense, Sergio is not real great in a half court set. He'll dribble too much and his man doesn't have to stay with him because Sergio simply can't shoot.
