jammy badgers joel is from what i heard more an american/euro mix player...tough strong thats what his profile says and showed it when he was here for the summer. we need an SF bad and a PG!
Here is a wild card I have been thinking about. Monta Ellis ? He has fallen out of favor with the new GM there because of the "Moped incident". I just don't know how well he fits with BRoy. His contract would fit 11M for 5 years. He would be an instant 3rd scoring option. He can hit the 3 . Character wise, who knows. I do know that with the foundation we have of good players I think we can add one questionable character guy. And NO, Bayless is not a young Ellis. Bayless can't hit the side of my house three feet away given 10 chances. Remember Bayless never worked out for the Blazers prior to the draft. We need someone who can create his own shot and breakdown the D. I think Ellis is worth looking at.
What about Patty Mills? During the Olympics, Chris Paul and Deron Williams couldn't stay in front of him. Nobody could. He's super quick and can finish. Didn't have a huge year but he did have an injury that lingered. At #24, he's worth a chance. From draftexpress: Go-to scoring mentality - Transition play - Ability to create own shot - Ball-handling skills - Ability to get in passing lanes - Aggressiveness - Strong Intangibles - Ability to finish around basket - Above average athleticism - Speed - 3-point range - Relies too heavily on outside shot - Shooting mechanics - Solid free throw shooter
Career 28.7% from 3.. but he did hit a career high 30% this year... this whole post was pretty much uninformed.
Picking 24th, I think the best we can hope for is for KP to pull another Batum type rabbit out of his (Euro) hat. (Casspi?) I would be satisfied if he could find a Millsap type back-up big man. A guy who brings a hardhat and lunchbucket to work every day - not some cotton candy softy like Frye, with an inflated view of his own skills.
How many Euro small-forwards do we need? KP has enough assets and the economy is bad enough that he can move up to get someone he really wants (except maybe the top two picks) - if he is looking at the draft again.
He had the assets to make a deal at the trade deadline too.....and didn't. I pulled Casspi's name out of the air because he is (reputedly) that rare European player who takes as much pride in his defense as in his offense. He has been compared to Hedo with better defense. IF that is true.....IF he is both a good scorer and solid defender, then he would be a potential upgrade over Webster/Outlaw. I cheerfully admit that is a big "if"!
Patty Mills seems interesting. Aren't there some Aussies here that can give some insight on his game. "what he play like?"
I just wanted to point something out about folks talking about KP bringing in talent successfully late in the first round. You will note, that all of the "players of talent" he has brought in have been european. Most of them were in a situation where they were not drafted higher because teams thought they could not get them over for helping immediately so they passed, or they might not have the european scouting that the Blazers have. But that being said, when it comes to players from the USA later in the round, he doesn't have much of a record of that. In fact, I feel he has missed several opportunities to draft american players who would have helped the team, guys who slid, or were better than they drafted out. Some of those players, were passed over 2 or 3 times when we had multiple second round picks.
Sounds like there were no deals that interested him in the trade deadline - and since I specifically said he will have them for a player in the draft he covets - one could understand why he did not do it in the trade deadline given that said player was not available yet Fair enough. I actually got to see him play one game on a recent business trip - and it was not an inspiring performance - but obviously one should not judge a player by one game...
You should not be. The weather was not nice enough to go to the beach and the game was boring - so all I got out of it was work and some nice food while enduring long and boring plane flights... I did in the past get to catch some Euroleague final-4 games - not this time.
Certainly they weren't thrilled that he basically lost a season doing something he shouldn't have been, but strike one isn't usually the end of a super talented youngin's time in a city. If he's really on the outs with them, there are probably many other things we don't know about (like a bad work ethic/bad character). They just resigned him last offseason so those sorts of things are unlikely. I'm not sure why you said he can hit the 3 as dude shot 31% from deep last year and is only a 29% 3pt shooter for his career. Bayless was even worse as a rookie shooting just 26% from deep, but neither is a long range sharpshooter. Also just to clarify, his contract is 11M per year for the next 5. STOMP
