He'll be 30 in November. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=0025 Suppose we have $8 mil. in cap space.
haha.. man, just 12 hours after our season's over, the threads of "should we sign so and so?" are starting to pop up! And countless trade machine proposals will be coming. Should be a great summer... I'm not complaining though but it makes me miss the season and talking about games. And yes, I wouldn't mind Artest on this team as long as he doesn't go crazy on us.
I voted 'Yes' to a short term deal, but a lot depends on the money he wants and just what KP decides to do with the glut of small forwards we'd be left with. Ideally I'd favor a sign and trade, but I can't imagine Daryl Morey being all that intrigued with any of our threes.
LOL.. I love how out of touch you guys in this forum are. Ron Artest a Blazer? Why not just bring back Zbo, Rasheed, Ruben and the rest of the jail blazers.
Artest is crazy in a different kind of 'truly scary' way, Ruben, Z-Bo, and Sheed were just malcontents and/or dumbfucks. Give me the 'likes to fight' guy over fake toughness any day of the week.
my first instinct says yes, but we have to remember that Artest is a sociopath. he's been on decent behavior for the last couple of seasons but it could only be due to the fact that Adelman might him in check for whatever reasons. im sure he's matured, but guys like that are able to go off the hook (not the good kind) at any split second. he fits with Houston b/c they need him. i could see him causing a huge stir here in portland when his usually not so great shot isnt falling and Outlaw gets key 4th quarter playing time in stead. he'd go ballistic. we probably dont need a guy like that.
I think you'd have to plan on him going crazy on us at some point. It's Ron Artest, after all. I'd still sign him, though. Probably only on a one-year deal, with a team option for a second year. You don't invest long-term in that kind of crazy. I really doubt any team offers him more than two years for that very reason. (Wait--Isiah Thomas isn't a GM anymore, right?) He's a vet, he's got a nice perimeter shot, and he's still a hell of a defender. Plus we've got such strong personalities in Roy and Przybilla and McMillan that I don't really foresee him going that far off the reservation. It'd be akin to when the Bulls signed Dennis Rodman.
The guy is mental! Yes, he is a great player but I think we should look at other options before even thinking about signing Ron.
I'm sure Morey would love Batum, actually. But I wouldn't trade Batum to get Artest. I'd rather just see if Artest would bite on a free agent deal. If Portland can't get Andre Miller, or sign-and-trade for Ramon Sessions, then Artest would be an interesting get.
Artest is mentally unstable. There is 0% chance that KP would ever even think about adding him to this team. I'm just amazed that long time Blazer fans who seem to spend a lot of time following this team would ever think that Ron Artest would be an option. amazing.
Any team can sustain one nutter. I agree it would definitely be a risk, but I think Ron-Ron isn't quite the same perpetual fuck-up that he was in his early twenties ... sometimes people do mellow with age.
Agreed, but I also think the team can afford to have one crazy guy on the team - in fact, maybe we can't afford not to! In this latest talk with the media, we found out that Artest has a lot of respect for Roy and Nate.
That's means anytime now he is going to explode! Its all been building up inside and then some fan will say something to him he does not like and then BOOM we got him punching fans.
