The New York Yankees lost to the Anaheim Angels by a score of 8-4. Starting for the Yankees was CC Sabathia and he gave up 5 runs on 8 hits in 6.2 innings of work for the loss. He gave up 1 unearned run and struck out 5 and only walked 1. Throughout the game, C.C. Sabathia was pitching very well. He was dominant for 6 innings. He had a nice slider and was locating his fastball on both sides of the plate. He had a nice change up down and away and he was throwing his fast ball up and in on right-handed batters. He was effective. Sabathia’s velocity was awesome and he was commanding his fastball. He was hitting 95 mph on the radar gun throughout the game and in the 7th inning he hit 99 mph. He had the life sucked out of him however in the 7th inning when Johnny Damon was lackadaisical with a pop fly that left two men on base with no outs. If Damon makes that catch then he would of thrown out third baseman Brandon Wood at second base because Wood left too early. There would of been 2 outs and no one on. Instead, it was no outs with 2 men on. That seemed to take the sails out of C.C. Sabathia. Matt Palmer, the Angel starting pitcher had an outstanding cut fastball and had life through the zone even though he doesn’t throw very hard. He tied up the Yankees all day so you have to give him credit. The Yankees had an opportunity to put the Angels away early in the first inning when they had a man on second and third with one out but the Yankees didn’t take advantage. The Yankees have a chance to take 3 out of 4 when they face the Angels on Sunday so there’s hope for a very successful weekend.
