BOOM! S2 is back with their 2nd edition of this year's Mock Draft with all the new underclassmen that have thrown their name into the draft. This is our early thoughts, giving you a glimpse into the original talent levels of players before workouts begin. So please enjoy, and let us know your thoughts on our predictions! DISCUSS.
If Raptors got Harden at 9, I'd jump for joy. I think Evans is a little high. Especially to the Clippers who have Davis and Gordon. I don't think DeRozan drops that far, because of potential abilities, he'll be around the 7-10 range.
After the Rubio and Griffin, the next batch of players are all pretty much near the same level of talent. Out of all the guys that are there, I see Evans being the most appealing to GM's b/c he helped Memphis stay on top of the college world and is versatile. Evans also has the best potential to be special, so Clippers can take a chance on him since they don't have a very dependable back-up PG or SG, while Baron Davis is injury prone on top of all of this.
Griffin > Rubio by a lot. I doubt Kings take Rubio over Griff. Larry Hughes II is a little high at #3 too. There's no way we take Lawson over Harden. I agree that BJ Mullens = the next Deandre Jordan
If Sacramento gets the top pick, I believe they would trade down to get Rubio & value but if not, they would take him. They have 2 good bigs that are still developing, and are in desperate need of a real PG. Rubio has the demeanor of a star, and would bring a big market from Spain (possibly Europe) to a team that is struggling financially. Blake Griffin is nice, but he just doesn't fit in for Sacramento at this point in time. Clippers don't really have a glaring need right now, and Evans is as good of a prospect as Thabeet or Hill right now, while they have Kaman, Z-Bo, Camby, and DeAndre Jordan in the frontcourt right now while they are using...Fred Jones and Mike Taylor @ back-up guard spots. They could use a versatile player like Evans, and they wouldn't be reaching IMO. Lawson is a D'Antoni type PG, and there aren't many quick PG's like him available that often. I think they would trade down, but since I don't like putting trades in mocks, we just had him go to the Knicks there. Excluding Evans, who is more of a combo guard, he would be the 6th true PG taken. Not sure what other player you player you feel is a PG, but Maynor is still @ #17, which is in his range. He's not exactly the best athlete, which is what "WOW" people in workouts usually, so I don't see it entirely unrealistic.
Do you guys really want that big of a project? I have a feeling you guys trade the pick + Bayless or Sergio for a good 4.
Joel Przybilla just played in all 82 games for the first time in his career and could decide to bolt for a place where is can start consistently and make a bit more money when his contract is up. I'm confident that Greg Oden will squash the injury bug and be a very good player, but he's not there yet. A center to develop in the D-League is the first thing I'd go for in the draft, it isn't like we have another huge need for another young player. With our current centers being better at defense than offense, I'd rather pick a center who is especially raw on defense, Mullens sounds like the perfect center for what I want. Of course, a trade is always a possibility.
Mullens is raw ALLLL the way around, he struggled to get PT in college b/c he was so raw. I'm not saying he's a guaranteed bust, but his work ethic doesn't help him. I want to compare him to Fesenko on Utah, has the tools to be great but just doesn't have the drive. Doesn't seem like a Pritchard type of pick IMO
Hell no the Grizzlies won't draft Teague. Conley has been playing so well since Hollins was hired. Teague would be a downgrade. If that happens, I expect the Grizzlies to trade out.
No way is Minnesota taking Hill when were already stocked up at PF with Big Al, Love and Gomes....and Hill is too small to effectivly bang inside at center....the Wolves need a center,PG and reliable scorer at SG woul b nice. I see Harden if available....or Jennings. I actually see Teague dropping possibly to Minnesota's second 1st rounder at #18.
