Against a good opponent, too. Bellator has been fairly uneventful so far but this is something worth seeing. Submission of the year so far.
would it matter if he got thrown off? you'd have to imagine that slamming backwards into the ground at full force with the weight of the two guys would have to do some damage to the guy who landed on the bottom. no telling what happens there. better to try something than to stand there and pass out.
The thing is, it's a rare an unusual submission attempt. By the time he realised what was going on, the submission is locked in tight and going to the ground usually lets the guy doing the sub tighten his grip.
it just seems like the first thing i would think with a guy on my back like that would be to slam him to the ground, especially once i realized the submission was locked in.
Exactly. You have nothing to lose slamming the guy to the ground. Just standing there holding his weight simultaneosly being choked is stupid. He should have just ran backward and slammed the guy into the cage.
I think your mind is racing in that situation. It is easy to say what you'd do now, but game plan and execution goes out the window a lot of times in a fight.
