http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/wolves/2009/05/07/under-the-big-top-and-the-search-goes-on/ Please don't go Tom. Especially not within the division.
Penn seems like a smart guy.. unless I'm reading the article wrong (its still early lol), it looks like he wouldnt be GM there but pretty much the same there.. why would he make a lateral move?
I hope Tom doesn't leave either. He's got some unfinished business here, especially this offseason. Why would he want to go to Minnesota?
This brings up a somewhat interesting thought, that I have discussed with friends before. How much information does KP keep to himself from his assistants? As assistant GM here, I imagine Penn is privy to a lot of information we have on targets, future plans, etc. Obviously, free agents are going to pick where they want to go, but does Penn know the whole of a future plan in regards to cap space, trade ideas, etc. that he could easily use in Minnesota?
aww crap.. well I guess its good that they dont have Free Agents or trade assets we want. And that we are probably a better FA destination than them.. I wouldnt worry too much about it.
I'm sure that there are confidentiality clauses, just as there are in any other business. If I moved to another biotech company, I can't tell them inside information about my current employer without getting into a whole peck of legal trouble, and every business knows that. But I also wonder, why would Penn take a lateral move, no more money, and with a team that is worse off both financially and talent wise? BTW, espn.com seems to think Kahn is getting the job.
Why would you want to go to the black hole that is the Minnesota Timberwolves? Hopefully he thinks this through, otherwise KP's Pritchslaps will be 33% less effective...
I don't know, Penn is a master of the MLE and other really obscure stuff like that. Obviously KP will still be able to slap others around, just maybe not as often since he and Penn make a really good team.
I hope he doesnt leave. I think KP does a good job of giving Penn credit for the moves he's helped make and sort of makes it feel like they are equals. Not GM and Asst. GM.
Basically he got us Rudy Fernandez by realizing that with adding Fred Jones to the Randolph trade, we would get a trade exception that we could trade for James Jones and the draft rights to Rudy. The Ike for Ruffin trade is another trade in which we received a trade exception.
If you want a head GM job you take anything that comes along, there are only 30 jobs in the universe.
I don't buy that. Phoenix has a history of being cheap, Paul Allen bought picks for three straight drafts.
Exactly. They are cheap, that's why they valued the trade exception so much (on top of the 3m), they could dump Jones' contract on us without having to take back any salaries. Maybe they would have just sold the Fernandez pick outright, but we don't know that.
