The Pistons had a fantastic run with their core team but it's over. I believe the Pistons will re-do their team this year as opposed to trying out the 2010 waters. Stuckey and Bynum will be back but everyone else is expendable. Rip, Prince, Kwame Brown.....they could all be traded for someone decent. On top of having trade pieces, they could definitely spend some cash and bring over Gordon to replace Rip and run him with Stuckey then pick up Boozer. If you have Gordon and Boozer then trade away for someone like Bosh or Amare, they could be dangerous as hell. The Bulls are gonna either have to ditch Hinrich on draft day or go over the cap to re-sign Gordon. In all his interviews BG's recently given, he doesn't seem that optimistic or excited about returning. There's no way they're gonna pay him 80 mill like they did Deng and I'm sure that stings him a little considering he's their only real (streaky but) consistant scorer. John Paxson and Jerry Reinsdorf need to stop playing around and actually make some moves. All this flirting with trades over the last few years with none of them pulling through has left Chicago fans with little hope for any kind of blockbuster deal. The least they could do is go over the cap for a year and re-sign BG.
I'm not familiar with Stuckey's D but he has the size to cover some 2s so Gordon could make some sense. If I'm a team like the Pistons or OK, I might offer Gordon a 1 year deal at $10M with a team option on year 2 for $10M. This preserves the 2010 cap space. Turns Gordon into a valuable expiring contract. And gives you a "free" trial.
I like the Pistons thinking. Basically, if I'm the Bulls, my plan would be to 1. Plan on re-signing Gordon. 2. Go full tilt with everything else to get Bosh. If we can't get him, the next target is Wade. Then Amare. Then Milsap. Unless we can get one of those guys, I think the smart thing is to more or less sit tight unless whomever wins the top pick starts making noises about trading Blake Griffin.
I don't see anyone shopping Blake Griffin, especially if OKC gets the #1 pick......but we're Bulls fans.....we have to dream.
I like your second idea. I'd take out Amare and put David Lee in there. A rotation of Lee or Millsap and Noah and Tyrus would be pretty versatile. Still not much of a post up game, you've got rebounding, defense and guys who can pick and pop. All of those guys would be in the $7-10 mil range and young and durable.
That article sounds like the Pistons are interested in anyone who's good and available. As far as BG is concerned, I'm not sure the Pistons make any more sense than the Bulls. Over the next five years, Hinrich and Rose is probably a better fit next to BG than Stuckey and Rip, and it's not like the Pistons are that good right now anyways. I have no idea how much Joe Dumars would be willing to pay Ben Gordon.
ZERO CHANCE PISTONS SIGN BEN GORDON....... ZERO GET IT OUT OF UR HEADS..... they had a shitload of money come off the books and they would choose to sign a little better player than rip? why would u want 2 jumpshootin sg's on ur team? im sayin they go for Boozer and possibly KIdd or Bibby if they were to get any sort of gaurd... i also think they will make another trade next season of some sort... not necessarily a blockbuster but probably for someone important
I'm not sure that the Dumars plans to spend all of his cap room this year. Detroit isn't exactly overflowing with disposable income clamoring to be spent on nba games, especially when the Red Wings are still the bigger draw.
