On top of Rubio and Griffin . . . what about the high school player who decided to play in Europe for the year instead of one year of college? Is he in the draft this year?
I'll be really pissed off if the Kings move. Arco Arena is a great place to go see the Blazers. Always tons of Portland fans and the arena people are pretty cool. Totally opposite to Oakland where I think they stay up late at night trying to find ways to keep fans from having a good time at games. Not only would I see the Blazers less, I'd only be able to see them in a place that treats fans like shit.
Pass all you want. He kills us, and is one of the best young guards in the league. There is no way a player on that team, gurading the other teams best player on most nights is going to have a very good defensive rating. Is Kevin Martin the next great defender in the league...LOL no. But he would be no worse than Blake, and defenses would have a fit with a 3 guard line-up of Roy, Rudy and Martin
Id killing Portland was a pre-req for being a good Blazer, then there are a lot of scrubs out there who we should sign or trade for.
What happened to the Kings? I lived there during the Webber - Peja - Vlade days and it was fantastic. Did Petrie lose his touch or what?
Petrie tried to keep a winner going too long. Eventually he ended up with too many overpaid guys who couldn't play anymore. Think about us the year we had Damon and NVE. Petrie just needs to burn the mother down, dump salaries, get young and cheap. He drafts well and has a good eye for talent and fit. He's capable of rebuilding the team. He's made a good start.
Why would LA need three basketball teams? That would be very stupid. With that said, why do people keep trying to upgrade our team via the draft? We need some veterans at this point. If the playoffs proved anything, it's that youth loses out to veteran experience. We need some seasoning.
Amen. Now I'm not opposed to filling out the edges with draft picks (every team needs to keep the talent stream flowing inward) or if there was some can't miss guy available I'd happily take him, but boy oh boy does this team need some savvy/tough vets who can be counted on to come in and give steady night in, night out production that won't wilt in the face of some adversity.
Just how many two guards does this team need ... and why in god's name would we add yet another sieve on defense? Is Oden not fouling out quick enough for your taste?
I've definitely warmed to the idea ... Although I doubt the Rockets let him get away and he seems to thrive under Adelman. How would he act and function under Nate McMillan? I'm not so sure.
artest fits the mold of giving steady night in and night out production? you must be watching a different player.
upgrading the team is upgrading the team. it should be done however possible. eliminating the draft as an option because you feel the team is too young is dumb. and what in these playoffs has shown that youth loses out to veteran experience? these playoffs have shown that the better team usually wins. youth is irrelevant as long as you're better than your opponent.
We absolutely need veteran help. That said, assets are assets. Why spend a roster spot on someone like Ruffin or LaFrentz if you can use it to stash a player you can develop into someone of value. This is not an either/or situation. You can do both...though sometimes I am not sure KP understands that.
What do the Blazers need? -experienced veteran -defense -someone who consisently produces Artest sounds about right for that.
