    The internet has been a boon for music. I have a buddy who released a couple of local albums in the Research Triangle and had posted them online. A quartet in Paris heard it, contacted him and now they're collaborating on an album. They've never met face to face, but my friend says it's been as easy as being in the studio with someone.
