between Rowell and Mullin. "In fact, the seeds of discontent were sewn two years ago, when the Warriors were very much a player for Kevin Garnett, who was being shopped by the Minnesota Timberwolves at the time According to multiple sources, the Warriors were close to a deal for Garnett, but it would have required them to take on additional salary that would have put them over the luxury tax. Warriors management said "No" to the deal, and Garnett ended up in Boston." Full article click here: http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/05/12/warriors-finally-announce-mullin-is-gone/
And the Celtics go on to win a championship... The Warriors end up a joke again. Cohan and Rowell ought to be ashamed of themselves. I'm not a big Steinmetz fan either. I'd like to hear this coming from more sources, or have someone ask the front office directly. What a joke. JV, you're depressing the hell out of me
Well, you can take comfort in the fact that I'm not blaming Don Nelson about this one. LOL. Another source would be Kawakami. He was saying it back when news was coming out that the Warriors were going to land KG. To put it in context, the Celtics weren't the same team they were last year at the time, so KG could have definitely decided on Golden State over Boston. To further add to Rowell's stupidity, he was doing the same thing after Baron walked away, and that was getting the Warriors near the luxury tax situation with Elton Brand or Gilbert Arenas. Finally, he settled on Corey Maggette which brings us back to where we are today. Panic moves seem to be Rowell's signature.
I thought it was reported about a year ago that KG declined a trade to GS because he didn't want to play here. BTW I doubt we could have beat Al Jeff, Gerald Green (he was hot shit at the time), Ryan Gomes, Telfair, 2 firsts, Ratliff (expiring contract), and cash.
This is in direct contradiction to what was reported. And we all know that what is eventually reported leaks its way out by all of the parties to spin it in a way that saves face. I really want to hear Rowell comment on it directly. I want to hear him get hammered by someone who really knows all of the people involved (management, agents, and players) and call him out whenever he gets caught spinning or in a lie. I know a lot of people hate Barbieri, but I think he'd be perfect. I'd pay money to hear that interview
I also remember it the same way. I remember watching a KG interview and he said the person who convinced him to leave 'Sota was Chauncey Billups. Apparently they discussed it in the summer and Billups said he could probably win a title in Boston. KG actually wanted to ride it out in 'Sota because he didn't want to be viewed as a quitter. Then of course there's the Boston connection between McHale & Ainge which had to make wheeling and dealing more amicable amongst former teammates. I'm not sure the Warriors would have been able to beat Boston's package either.
I gotta think the Warriors were going to offer more money. So we ended up losing Mullin over some deal that really wasn't there? That's pathetic. Fast forward to today. We're still trying to pull a variation of the KG deal except we don't have Baron: Past: 1. Baron + KG 2. Baron + Amare 3. Baron + Elton Brand Present: 1. Jax + Chris Bosh
Didn't Mullin want to get Billups too? Mullin is actually part of the NBA. I don't think the same is true for Rowell and the rest of the GSW management.
