sorry.. the fact that he's not mentioned is good to me, cause you dont just throw out there who you like this early. I love Maynor.
Ah gotcha. I think he's got some potential, but with such a weak draft I keep wondering if I'm subconsciously pumping him (and a few other guys) up to be more than what he really is. Good thing it's in the hands of professional scouts and talent evaluators like Mike Born, Chad Buchanan, and KP and not me.
lol exactly. And I agree on most accounts. I dont think he will be our starter but I do view him as someone who will be a hell of a backup for a while for us and maybe for longer. Who can be a spot starter, but a really good backup. But yes I'm glad its not on our hands lol, if it was sentimentality could play a big part in keeping players here.
A guy whose passing has been compared to Magic Johnson and who has "defense" listed under his strengths. You're right...forget adding guys like that. Let's get rid of Rudy and Batum also...who cares about talent, we don't want "Euro softies"
It's easy to get caught up in the draft hype and think things are going to happen. This years draft stinks, and I see no reason to move up, and because of that, I don't see any reason the Blazers moving up. If the Blazers make a trade on draft day or around there, it will be to get an experienced player coming back, not a draft pick IMO.
Great minds think alike. I think Maynor is the closest thing to Roy in this draft, (think a Roy/Sergio combo).
Yep, I'll stand by what I said. What this team needs is a hard nosed physical presence, someone that can grab a freaking defensive rebound in a close playoff game , someone who can make the other team think twice about going into the paint; not another flashy Euro player who is going to have some highlight reel plays but isn't a lockdown defender. Besides, being noted for something in the Euro leauge is different from the NBA. I mean, look at Rudy-in Euro he was a guy who was fearless going to the rim, and did it often. Here he's mainly a 3point specialtist, thats how the physical nature of the NBA changes a players MO. I have nothing against Euro players obviously, I think that Batum and Rudy are great additions to this team.
physical nature of the NBA, or team schemes changing what Rudy did? He seemed to be pretty fearless playing against the physical NBA Olympic team. My contention is that we desperately need a PG upgrade, and even the best PG probably isn't going to get tough defensive rebounds or lay people out in the paint. So I'm confused about that part of the statement. Would Jon Brockman be good for this team? I wholeheartedly say "Yes!" But what's a PG going to do? I can't find any scouting report that says Rubio's team D isn't a "strength". And what does "flashy" have to do with it if it gets the job done? I don't see anyone telling Blake to stop throwing Roy back-door alley-oops (on the contrary, I wish he'd do it more, and especially on the fast break). What I do see is that we have 2 or 3 pretty unstoppable bigs on the pick-and-pop and P&R. (Joel's always done well on the roll). We don't have a guard that plays much who can execute it. That's another of Rubio's strengths. Whether or not he's flashy, soft, skinny, ugly, whatever...if he's a better defender and distributor (especially in the P&R), we should be aggressively exploring how to get him. If you had said "no more soft Bargnani/Dirk shooter-PFs", I'd tend to agree with you.
Care to elaborate? B/c he's a Husky? http://950kjr.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=mitchinthemorning.xml If you have ~25 min or so, check out the Brockman podcast from 5-15. It's like he drank Brandon Roy's Stepford Player Juice.
I think it's like the episode from House yesterday...he'd be wanting to slow it down and walk it upcourt for an Iso (Roy), when the right side of his brain would subconsciously make him start running and dribbling in circles and he wouldn't know why.
No, what I meant was that we don't need to draft Rubio at all-the price would be too high to get him, and he wouldn't help out this team as much as a DeJuan Blair type. We need a physical backup PF, and a good veteran PG would perhaps be the key to putting us over the top this year waaay more than a 18 YO point guard. Nothing wrong with flashy play, we just need more of a physical presence on this team.

Yeah, but that was for 2 games. Its different when you play 82 games, and get knocked around a lot more going to the hoop. Couldn't agree with you more on the Bargnani issue.
