When Strikeforce bought EliteXC, they also acquired the rights to the fighters contracts under their current terms. There was a set time to pick up the contracts and they picked up all the other fighters contracts, but Kimbo Slice was paid $500,000 for his fight with Seth Petruzelli. Strikeforce tried to re-negotiate with Kimbo's management a more financially reasonable deal but couldn't come to an agreement. So that time has passed and he's been released from his contract. Strikeforce is still negotiating with Kimbo's management to agree to a lesser contract but nothing has happened so far.
Ferguson supposedly wants to be a boxer now. No surprise Strikeforce wasn't willing to pay $500k for a can crusher who got knocked out by a jab.
