A lot of people has not been too in to the idea of Jason Kidd in a Laker uniform. Saying that the future Hall of Famer won't fit to Phil's triangle offense. And oh yeah, they've been calling Kidd old, over the hill, washed up or whatever else they can think of pointing to his 36 year old frame. Fact is, they need a legitimate point guard. Not a 6'2 trigger happy guard who "tries" to pass a few times and if had his way, would probably shoot all night. How many times have we seen Fish run the break and stop for a jumper instead off passing to a teammate on the wings, even if that teammates happens to be the best player on the planet. They can't have Kobe do everything (even if he can). Still saying Kidd can't shoot? People has been saying this his entire career. Jason Kidd is 9th all-time in most 3 point field goals made. Derrick Fisher isn't even in the top 30. Jason Kidd averaged 40% from beyond the arc this season. And how many time has he made a big 3 in crucial situations this season alone? Pure shooter? Sure I'd give that to Fish, but that's all. Let's look at the stats. This season, Fisher has averages of 9.9PPG, 2.3RPG, 3.2APG, 1.2SPG, 42%2PFG, 84%FT, 39%3PFG in 30 mins. of action. Kidd, 9.0PPG, 6.2RPG, 8.7APG, 2.0SPG, 0.5BPG, 41%2PFG, 82%FT, 40%3PFG in 35 mins. of floor time. For a guy who can't shoot and has been criticized for not taking more shots, Fisher's 9.9PPG really isn't that much against Kidd's 9.0PPG. And it is well known fact that Kidd's contributions goes way beyond the stat sheet. They won't give Kidd a $20Mill multi-year contract. And they don't need to. Even Kidd knows that. Maybe a 2-3 year deal around $7M to $10M would do the trick. It would be a bargain. Even the Lakers knows that.

Wait do you mean? 7-10 million contract over 2-3 years?

As in his annual salary is approx 3 mill. Or do you mean his annual salary would be 7-10 mill per year?

If it is the latter, they would need to do a sign and trade, and probably dump Fisher. It might not be easy.

Well first of all, Lakers only have the MLE to spend. (or sign and trade)

Nobody said they didn't want Kidd over Fish either. Just that the price may be too steep. I agree that Kidd's shooting percentages have gone up, which is impressive. But either way, the triangle offense doesn't place that much value on point guards. We just need somebody who can hit open shots, run the offense (nothing fancy), and play some D. We can probably get that cheaper, or we may already have that on our roster in Shannon Brown.

Beyond that, it would be great for the Lakers to sign Kidd in the offseason, but they have more pressing issues with their own free agents. Trevor, Lamar, and Shannon need to be retained, and given our salary, we'll have a tough enough time trying to keep all three. So unless Jason wants to sign for the LLE I don't see it happening.

7 to 10M a year. Sorry for the confusion. A sign and trade would probably be the way to go. It would be a better situation for the Mavs instead of Kidd just walking. As for Fish, like what Kobe would say "ship his a#$ out".

Dallas is willing to do a sign and trade if they can't get Kidd to stay.

Bibby > Kidd at this point.

MLE or less and nothing more... however... its kinda sad that we need a stacked lineup (Kidd - Kobe - Ariza - Odom - Pau - Bynum) such as that to win a championship... why not go for a solid up and coming PG instead? Like a Rondo in his rookie season or what not.

Sign and trade for Kidd? who do we give? Odom? at this point Kidd for Odom is a down grade. I'd settle for Bibby for the MLE at this point IF he'd accept. We need a dead - eye 3pt shooter and Bibby is that guy, im sure he's hungry for a title.

Kidd's best attribute is his passing and his playmaking ability. If anything, playing in the triangle will only hurt his game, since all that isn't really that important in the offense we run. Thus, if we can get someone who can hit shots and play some D for cheap, I'd rather sign them than give bank to Kidd.

No way are we able to pay for Kidd or for Dallas to agree to a sign and trade with us. Is there really anyone in the roster they would want that we are willing to give? Kidd to LA is a cool idea, but I just don't think it's happening.

If we can keep Lamar no way we trade him for Kidd.

Jordan is most likely going to be shopped in the offseason.

    Brown can play SG.

I love Brown, the kid is an athletic freak that can play multiple positions.

Let Jordan go, it isn't that big a deal.

I think if Lamar walks in the offseason, we can deal Jordan + Morrison for a backup PF. Maybe add our 1st rounder since apparently we don't want it.

I hope Shannon works hard in the offseason, so he develops into a player who can be our starting PG. Like Trevor - when he came, he wasn't anything special, now he is our solid starter.

Yeah, I hope so too. He's really a big part of the team now, unlike what was projected to be a financial fill-in before, now he looks like the stud and morrison's the scrub. lol

That trade was definitely worth it.
