I had been with dish for 8 years and had to switch over to directv this past November. Dish lost there contract with the NBA and I wasn't NOT going to have the LeaguePass so I switched. Had no problems until we got back from the beach last night. Both DVR's were down. I called for service and they said the earliest they could get to me is JUNE 6TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What?!?!?!?!?!? I have 2 kids under 8 and a wife that follows a few shows religiously! That and the fact that I can now NOT watch the NBA playoffs! If anybody on here might know somebody who could help me out, holler! I promise I will stop calling you names and tell "yo mama's so fat" jokes!
Damn dude that sucks. You guys sure have a lot of problems over in the west with cable and cable companies. I really can't complain here. I mean I've had to wait a few days once for a repair, but never the amount your talking about... watch the games online? go to a friends? convince the blazers to make it farther into the playoffs next year so you dont have to worry about this type of thing?
Both were down? What are the odds of that? Did you do all the "reset" mumbojumbo? If both of your DVRs are down, it sounds like your dish may have an issue.
The good news: I just left direct tv to go to comcast. Given the way my luck operates, this means direct tv will soon get the contract issue with comcast resolved so that other direct tv people will have more access to Blazer games. Did you try some trouble shooting? My dvr had issues a couple of times and I was generally able to solve it by unplugging the unit (at least a minute, maybe two) and doing a re-boot. Don't just turn it off, it's got to be unplugged and for a little while. One time I had to hit and hold the red button on the front of the unit and that solved the problem. Try that, if unplugging doesn't work. The bad news: if wind or something knocked your dish off kilter, you'll probably need a repair guy to get the thing aimed right.
Maybe post what the issue you're having with your DVRs is? I haven't had DirecTV for several years, but I used to troubleshoot stuff myself and maybe one of us on the board could help you fix it yourself... Ed O.
It has the Searching for Signal screen come up. It never goes away. I have powered down both DVR's and hit the red reset button, but nothing. It always comes back to Searching for Signal.
Sounds like your dish either got moved out of whack or something might've obtructed the signal. Did a tree grow a bunch or a neighbor add a level to their house? edit: obviously, the tree didn't grow a bunch while you were at the beach, but it might've grown just enough to screw up the signal past the point of no return.
If you're getting the same error message on both boxes, it's almost certain that the problem lies with the dish. Check to see if it has been bumped, unhook and clean all the cable connections at the dish, and make sure that there is no obstruction inside the casing of the (if you'll forgive the technical jargon) receiver thingy. I had a friend who had a spider lay eggs inside that casing, and it affected his signal. He took it apart and cleaned it, and it worked just fine...
Foliage on a tree that would not have been there over the winter might now become an issue. Check connection to lnb on antenna inside cone. Check wire where wire enters house.
Dude...I want to go Postal at Time Warner Cable right now...I have had 5 of thier boxes break on me within two years, 2 of which were within the last week! On top of that the first box that broke this week took a shit with 2 min left in the 3rd quarter of game 1 of the WCF OF A tivoed game!!!! We had to turn opn the shitty TV with 2 min left in the 4th and the Lakers down by 4! So the new box it partially malfunctioning...but here is their kicker...I got their "newest model" box this last time and it has LESS control and options than their older box! Also the box takes longer to respond to any command from the remote! FUCK TIME WARNER!!! I called those pieces of shit and have them coming tomorrow to my house to give me an older model box...I can only pray that it works. I swear to god their company is run buy a bunch on monkeys throwing darts to make decisions! UGH!!!
HCP, may I ask why you chose DirectTV over Comcast? You work for Blazer Broadcasting, right? Wouldn't it have made more sense to go with them? I have Comcast in both Portland and Denver, and while there have been times I've been frustrated with them, they're pretty responsive. Best of luck dealing with angry kids.
This is the #1 reason why I like having Comcast. I never ever ever ever have any tech issues. HCP, Your daughter cant even finish the ABC's, so my guess is that this is a user error because brains obviously dont run in the family.
