Man United Have Enquired About Ribery

Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness has confessed that a “non-concrete” enquiry has been made by Manchester United regarding French winger Franck Ribery.

The mercurial France international still has two years left to run on his current Bayern contract, but such is the high esteem in which he is held around Europe, that the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with his name.

United’s interest stems from the protracted Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga, with the Red Devils seeing Ribery as a ready-made replacement should their Portuguese star opt to move to Madrid as has been widely tipped (but strenuously denied in recent weeks).

"I would really not even answer the phone if the amount would just be £34 million," Uli Hoeness told Sport-Bild.

"There was a casual request from Manchester United. But then it depends on Cristiano Ronaldo."

I think he'll end up going to Real Madrid, because of Zidane telling him to do so. :)

Certainly a good replacement if they can manage it. It seems that ManU need a pure striker more than another winger, though.

    Hey buddy. :ghoti:

United will have lots of money to spend though, I'm sure they can get two great players in return for selling Ronaldo. (which will break all records)

It says he's worth ~£75m and clubs usually get around another £10m out of a player so that will be at least £85m along with any other sales they make and their previous transfer fund.

Bayern have recently said that nobody has made an enquiry about Ribery. Either this is true, or Bayern are hinting to United and Chelsea (they're also interested) that the player isn't for sale. It will be a hard choice for Ribery to make, but imagine getting a bid from United.

There is no source link, so that's what makes it sound iffy. I'm almost 100% sure United have made an enquiry about the player, but I don't know about a bid.

United will probably pad out their midfield a little bit more (like when they bought Nani and Anderson) and perhaps do the same with the defense. They won't buy worldclass defenders, but they'll make a few purchases that will give the squad more depth - Like they didn't have enough already. Finally, if they lose Tevez, they'll definitely be getting another striker and I can also see them getting rid of Berbatov.

^ Lorik Cana is available, he said so himself that he's 50-50 about leaving Marseilles at the moment. :)

I'd like to see how United cope without Ronaldo and Tevez.

It'll be an interesting season. I can see them competing for the #1 spot, but they'll probably finish with the #2 or #3 spot.

Yeah, a lot of people predicted that United would come 2nd or 3rd the 08/09 season but they won it pretty comfortably in the end. It will be interesting to see what happens to Ronaldo and Tevez and who Ferguson will buy to replace them.
