I am blown away that Nate received no votes and Mike Brown actually won this thing. Has anybody else noticed him sitting on the bench during timeouts staring off into the stands while one of his assistants draws up the plays on the board? So while his team surrounds an asst. coach, he's sittin on the bench guarding the god damn Gatorade!!!! Coach of the year???? REALLY?????? (ps- remember, Jerry Sloan has never one this award!)
Just remember that he put Varajeao on Rashard Lewis on that game winner, and the other game winner he puts Ben Wallace on him. Seriously? Yes.
I'm not surprised at all. Nate is vastly overrated and the Blazers 54 wins was more a result of the players organic growth as young players, and less to do with Nate's coaching (or lack thereof - see Houston series). Just my opinion, but, I have a really strong gut feeling that this team would excel much more if under a different coach. (ie run more, not having to look over shoulder all the time, substitutions)
Funny how the only people who seem to bash Nate are Blazer fans themselves while the rest of the league thinks Nate is one of the league's better coaches. Not to say Nate is perfect, but give the guy some credit. He's not out there twiddling his thumbs like Mike Brown is most of the time.
Yeah, if you were to ask me I would say a better than average coach in the NBA with the possibility of being a coach that could win a ship...these next two years will show a lot.
What are you talking about, Nate was fourth in the COY voting with 15 first-place votes and was only behind Mike Brown, Rick Adelman and Stan Van Gundy.
Brown is joke. Look at the Spurs/Cavs finals. Complete lack of creativity on offense. The Spurs would have won anyway but at least make it interesting!
LOL, I always say the same thing about Phil Jackson. Winning a championship is easy when you have the best two players in the league on your team at the same time (MJ, Pip and Shaq, Kobe).
I think Adelman should have won the whole thing. He dealt with more injuries and focused more craziness (Artest) than anyone else in the league. Seriously, he almost made the WCF without McGrady and Yao.
I don't think the recent lineage of coaches who have won the COY award is that great. Maybe there's a new jinx out there? Avery Johnson? Fired Sam Mitchell? Fired Byron Scott? (might be looking for new work soon)
Both Mike and Nate are not as good as people think they are. Mike has Lebron, who makes him look a lot better than he is. Nate has Roy who does the same. It's funny because the same things "experts" and fans all say about Brown is the same things that Nate does.
Yes Phil has always had talent but he still had a good size part in it...Anyone who can tame Dennis Rodman deserves some credit...Phil and Brown are on two different levels
