I think because there are so many that post comments there and they have the fan posts, that it functions as a combination blog and forum rolled into one. They have a large "community".

I read the blog pretty often. I agree that many of the blog posts are extremely lengthy. Nerd squared. But, eh, if you don't want that much detail, just skip it. I wade through the comments from time to time, but I find it kinda hard to read, and there are often soooo many comments it is just too much.

A party at a friends house is fun with 50 people. Getting a little hectic with 100. A disaster with 500. Some things don't scale well.

I am not "bothered" by Blazers Edge, I just don't post there because I don't like that format. The same way I never liked the O-Live format. The vBulletin board format is the best to me. So much easier to read and navigate and so much faster and responsive. I hate slow shit.

Pretty much my stance as well.

I should point, however, that I am not a fan of Diarrhea either... :devilwink:

Blazers Edge is awesome. Basically it's like having two really good writers cover the Blazers, plus you get your own forum to post things on the side bar. If you like statiscal anaylses (sp?), that's the place to go. Then there is a giant OT forum called the Junk Drawer, which is my haven :biglaugh:

Ugh the O Live thing was just a giant clusterfuck by whoever was in charge of the forums.

Dave and Ben run a blog and they do a pretty in depth job of analyzing and breaking things down. Ben is credentialed and covers the games, Dave is a lutheran minister by day and lives in Idaho (but grew up and lived in Portland for most of his life I gather).

Frankly, I think it's better coverage and more in depth and insightful than anything you'll read from the Oregonian.

It's a nice place with a lot of good people. Like any site, it has its warts. Moderation was long overdue there, so there's a bit of playing catch-up right now. The new mods are a good group of folks.

As a few others noted, it depends on whether you like both the site writing, and the conversational style of the threads. For example, you can't edit a post to correct errors after the fact, and they've said they have no plans to change that.

In reality, it's not mutually exclusive. Lots of folks post both there and here (among other places).

I tend to like Dave's writting much more then Ben's, but that is a matter of personal opinion. That and Ben seems to have a problem with Storm Large which makes no sense to me at all.

Not that I agree with all of what they say, but at least they give it a great deal of thought. Certainly, they are more reasonable then I am when it comes to the Blazers.

I have no experience with Blazer's Edge as a place to post...I think it's likely the best blog about the Blazers in existence. They write quite reasoned and interesting pieces.

    Hey Cloudy,

Well for one thing I had a popular poster compare me to David Duke with no consequences even when I specifically emailed Dave about it. Yet, I was warned that I would be banned for going off topic when another poster went off topic and was extremely inflammatory towards other posters. I responded to their saying other people were uniformed by saying that he was in fact uninformed and ignorant of history and that his little straw man arguments lacked depth. I couldn't believe it as it was like I said he was a fucking idiot or something. I was going to respond to a number of posts on the "I Hate Blazersedge" thread and it was suddenly locked. I felt like there was plenty more that could be said. Plus Dave said off topic posts not about basketball didn't belong in the sidebar and would be deleted. He further stated that no "critical of the new policy(s)" posts would be allowed and to keep criticisms behind closed doors by emailing him. That struck me as extremely lame and Stern-esque by which I mean it compares closely to not allowing public criticism of refs.

I've been kind of sick of Blazersedge for a while now, to be honest. Just my personal opinion, but frankly I prefer more latitude in conversation. For instance, if someone says something inane like conspiracies don't exist (referring to refs and conspiracies at large), I feel like I should be able to respond that they are wrong as there is in fact a legal definition of conspiracy - conspiracy to commit fraud etc. - and a lengthy bit of history that shows that conspiracies of elites can and do happen (Julius Caesar's assassination, the mafia, assassinations of popes by cardinals etc.). Not to mention the Donaghy scandal which directly involves a criminal conspiracy to alter game results and point shave. To get threatened with a ban over that is asinine and when I email him as requested about it and he doesn't respond in over a week but instead institutes hardcore insta-ban rules, I look for greener pastures with a more open dialogue. I will still go to BE for news but probably won't post much there.

Yes, I didn't put that in my post above, which was an oversight. I just kinda assume all the posters here already know about Blazers Edge.

There is a reason I check out Blazer's Edge regularly, despite not liking the forums and comments all that much - the best TrailBlazer's blog out there. Lots of good articles. Good links to other blogs, stories, articles about all things Blazers. Good stats explorations. Interviews.

"Uninformed", for whatever reason, is a no-no word over there.

All off topic comments/posts are contained in the Junk Drawer, that's why it is there.

Fair enough that you are tired of BEdge.

This was before the "Uniformed" rule took effect. And what about not sanctioning the poster who compared me to David Duke? Just because they are extremely popular? This same poster said he wanted to punch a poster in the mouth and several other shocking things. I never received a reply even though I responded via email rather then posting about it. it was the double standard I found to be especially egregious.

    Post edit:

I forgot to respond to the Junk Drawer suggestion. I went off topic due to the absurd statement a very rude poster made in a main board thread. That was that there was no such thing as a ref conspiracy because conspiracies don't exist or a slight variation of that.

Maybe Sonya Sotomayor was that poster, which would just be naturally overlooked.

I already like this board better. I may not agree with your assessment (haven't been keeping up on the Sotomayor thing as I've been keeping my eye on the ball: the economy and the bond market), but I like that you can make it.

Dave has slowly been getting more full of himself (I could think of no better or descriptive terminology sorry) in the last year and a half or so. It's been a long process and isn't really noticeable unless you look over a the period of work but it's like what Henry Abbott did once he went to ESPN. It is very unfortunate. Then there was that very odd and awkward fatty front page post a while ago. I enjoyed talking to a couple people over there but not enough to consistently comment.
