It seems there are two perceptions of Blazers Edge. For me, I see it as a blog I go to read what Dave and Ben post. I mostly don't even look at the comments, and I've never wanted to post a comment there. However, many feel it's more of a community site as opposed to just some guys blog. Certainly nothing wrong with that, but it's not how i use it. I make all my personal posts about the Blazers here, and just consider Blazer's Edge an excellent blog. To each their own.
That's my plan going forward. It's the commenting atmosphere that got lame. Front page stuff has been and I imagine will be good for the foreseeable future.
Dave banned him. ED repeatedly brought up an opinion about the Blazers that Dave didn't like (for the life of me I forget what it was). It wasn't personal, it was about the team. Dave told him to knock it off, and when ED brought it up again, he was banned. If you have ever read any of England Dan's posts, he's neither petty nor vindicitive. He's reasoned and insightful. If I had to guess the real reason, it was that Dave doesn't like to be challenged, and ED tends to run logic circles around most people.
i hate the blog style comment layout - i look at BE for news occasionally but 99% of my Blazer time happens here with the rest of these idiots, just the way i like it
I'm just saying, I don't see: A) A guy being serious about "punching people in the face" over an anonymous internet forum. and B) Dave not responding to your complaints about being compared to that Duke guy...
Well, I'm not lying and the poster said he really wanted to punch the other poster in the face Said repeatedly he hated the poster and gave a LENGTHY list of why. I'm just going to say it. It was TominHawaii talking about TominRehab and he and Ann the Fan piled on as well (deservedly or undeservedly I don't know, to be fair it sounded like TiH had some valid anger about TiR). Regardless, Dave NEVER responded to my question about David Duke comparison by TiH and he (TiH) had been being increasingly rude to me as he does with a few other folks on occasion. You can say you are joking when you talk about a holocaust denier but I don't know and it was after he had ripped on me and fans like me repeatedly in a non-funny way. That one for me was way over the line. He (TiJ) likes to use the guise of humor but he was getting bitter about the fans and posted on in repeatedly. You can say what you want but you are incorrect about B) and I would argue based on the information provided by TiH he most definitely DID want to punch the other poster in the face. Dave even stepped in eventually about that one. My point is TiH is like royalty and should have easily been banned for a number of things he did that were FAR more egregious then me but Dave has a soft spot for him and views everything he does as funny.
But that's who TiH is. Pretty much everything he says is not meant to be taken seriously. I mean, the man is currently making a claymation video about a zombie takeover during a T Wolves game lol.
Really, so you can just be as insulting as you want and say it's funny? How does Dave know I wasn't being funny or tongue in cheek. Likewise how do you know TiH's intent? Why if it was a joke did he not take the time to write "Dude I was just kidding, it was a joke or I'm sorry I was just fooling" eh? Even though I brought it up in multiple threads. He was saying he hated whining Blazer fans and they were the most disappointing thing this past season. He even admitted at the time he was bitter about BE and the posters during the Houston series when the event in question occurred. At the time he was being about as funny as your wife getting pregnant by your uncle. People even said at the time that he was being strangely unfunny. Not to mention prior to the event in question, he was being a jerk to a number of people in a number of threads with impunity especially those posters that were being critical of the Blazers during the Houston series. You can call it being humorous if you want but the humor stops when someone says they are offended and make it clear to you multiple times. Do you think holocaust jokes are funny? Would it be acceptable for TiH to just start dropping N-bombs and not apologize when Black posters say they are offended? I guess he can make abortion jokes too cause hey it's TiH it's totally cool cause he can you know say whatever he wants but someone else says someone is lacking in depth and that's a ban warning. For your information my wife is of Jewish descent so being compared to David Duke is EXTREMELY offensive to me. David Duke wants all people with Jewish blood dead and that would include my son and wife. If you think that kind of behavior is ok, especially not apologizing for it, along with Dave not responding to my concern...well that's just plain ridiculous and I feel sorry for you. Believe it or not I'm a pretty funny guy I even did live stand up at Harvey Comedy club this past weekend to rave reviews. So I know when people are being funny and when people are being passive aggressive jerks. I can definitely tell when they don't have the common courtesy to say they were kidding when someone makes it clear that what they said wasn't funny at all. TiH has a RADICALLY different standard of behavior from everyone else on that board and is given WAY more latitude because he is Dave's funny guy on the board that shows how liberal Dave is with his moderation. Indeed, Dave even used him as an example of how liberal he is in moderation which was especially enraging to me given that TiH was the very poster who was such an ass. I'm done talking about this but I hope you can at least see my point if not then I don't even know what to say.
dude, it's just internet politics, don't sweat it. grab a beer and watch the game and forget about it, there's a million more important things going on than what happens on a message board/blog. And did I mention that you can swear here!?
At some point you have to look at the people leaving. Basketball forums was one thing (but a major overreaction IMO). I don't frequent BE that much, but from what I've read, this is again a sad overreaction, but whatever. Not like I really care too much either way.
If it's a pissing contest consider me Bob McKenzie from Strange Brew. Cause I gotta go so bad my teeth are floatin'! (P.S. I get annoyed when I overly explain things to people and and they still don't get it hence the large size urine stream but I take your point good sir.)
He may have been being an ass that day, but you have to go batshit insane to get banned by Dave anyways. Hell, one day in a thread this one poster went off the deep end and started cussing and posting pornography, yet Dave never banned him. In fact, Dave even said that he is welcome back whenever he wants to come back. If you don't like the community where ever, that's fine, I just don't see where you are getting this idea of a "wave of refugees" coming from BlazersEdge. I'm done here, as the poster above pointed out, this is a pretty fucking ridiculous argument.
