Disagree. I am not saying fouling is good but it is part of the game. It happens. Compare it to a mistake. Is it fair to expect you to make the same number of mistakes in a week as you would in an hour? I am just saying that with more time there will inevitably be more fouls, not because the players are dumb or thugs, just as a function of time. Disagree if you want, but I am not "missing the whole reason for fouls" or "acting as if committing a foul is a good thing". Six fouls in a regulation or 7 in an OT is still a risk for the player. They can still foul out.
I'd like a penalty for flopping... that would be awesome. I also think if a team throws up a airball at the shot clcok buzzer and the other team catches it, it shouldnt be called a 24 second violation. a lot of fast breaks are ruined because of that rule.
That hippie dude is Lou Adler. How can you have anything against Lou? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Adler I wish there more no calls in the league. I'm not sure if you can make it a rule, but the officials need to allow more contact to take place. I think this would somewhat curb flopping. If a defender flops and no whistle is blown the offensive player gets an uncontested layup, dunk, or jump shot.
Going along with the age limit, I'd like to see a system set up in America similar to European systems of having seperate "high schools" set up for athletes to go to, to get better fundamental work done in their sport, while probably getting a better education as well. Not sure how it would be set up, but it's an interesting idea to me. I like the idea of widening the court. Along those lines, I have seen mentione every so often of switching it to 4-4 basketball. I think widening the court is better, but 4-4 would be an interesting strategy session. Generally now, you have 2 bigs, 2 wings, and a PG. 4-4, the possibilites and matchups would be fun to see. 2 wings and 2 bigs? PG, 2 wings, and 1 big? 3 wings and a big? 1 PG and 3 wings, etc.
I would change 2 of the foul rules: 1- knocking a player with the ball out of bounds would not be a foul but a reset of the shot clock and the team with the ball retains possession. (this would save a lot of fouls with the bigs in the league) 2- offensive fouls would not be a foul but a change of possession. (less incentive to flop and keeps the flow of the game quicker) I like the instant replay to review calls but I don't know if the NBA could implement it like the NFL. I'd like to see it done in the NBDL or CBA.
Dancers are not allowed to wear clothes. More offensive fouls. I get tired of guys charging their way into the defense to get the foul.
Like International, you should be able to know off or tip the ball when it is on the rim. Also, they don't really enforce the dress code anymore. Not like the first season.
I used to be a fan of the age rule, but it seems alot of these players, like Lance Stephenson, hold certain university hostage even if it's only for a year. Also, would Rose and Memphis have this situation currently if Rose would have been allowed to go straight to the NBA, same with Mayo. I'm hoping they drop it, but Stern won't unless the NCAA says something. I could care less about the dress code, but players still seemed to get fines for it, so I dunno, don't really care. Maybe add sound to the Staples center so maybe it atleast sounds like they care. Toronto was louder for their first round series games then LA for the Finals. I'm on the fence if a T should be a personal foul. Part of me says yes like college, part says no.
A 4 point shot: Seriously, about 10 feet behind the 3 pt line. It would make late game come from behind victories possible and stop the whole foul-foul-foul thing, hoping for someone to miss a free throw in order to get the ball back and hit a shot . I would eliminate at least half of all free throws. Sometimes I feel like I am watching a free throw contest and not a basketball game. They cant go two minutes without stopping play to shoot yet another free throw.
Instead of stopping play for substitutions you'd have both players play for a possession kind of like tag team in wrestling for a 6vs5 power play.
1. Refs from an independent source (see: European soccer). 2. No extra weightings for NBA lottery (see: Malcolm Gladwell's discussion with the Sports Guy) 3. Expand the court (both length by maybe 10 feet and width by 6 feet) 4. No player above 6'0 is allowed to take a charge. 5. Allow handchecking. 6. Re-do the divisions (Portland in the Pacific, basically) 7. Flopping, determined via post-game video review, is subject to a minimum 2-game suspension.
