This dude's head isn't on straight. His stances and opinions vary so radically from public statement to statement. And he's fooling himself if he thinks any team would trade for him to be their starter, after he lost his job and his sanity last season.
It's sad to see one of the most exciting college football players of this decade so immature. We all knew that he certainly had his maturity problems at Texas, but they hid it a lot better than we all thought. This guy just doesn't get it. What he did in college means nothing in the pros. He needs to continue to sit behind Kerry Collins and learn better mechanics. If he does that he can become a quality player. Even if he's an average passer, he can become a great player because in Tennessee's system, average is all they need. This is arguably the best team for him to be on. I can't think of another team that has the pieces in place for a player like Vince Young. The best thing for him is to play in Tennessee. If he's moved elsewhere and asked to shoulder more of the load, the pressure will get to him.
Don't know where he would get traded, and really has no leverage in this. This is dumber than Jay Cutler coming out and demanding a trade. He needs to act a little more mature if he wants to get his starting job back at any point during the regular season. Performing wouldn't hurt either, something he's never really done much of since coming in to the NFL.
Titans should try to use him more with a Wildcat formation or something similar to Texas' Spread where Young was a stud every once in awhile. But Vince Young didn't do that much worse than Kerry Collins, and Collins didn't really do anything great. I wouldn't be surprised to see VY starting by the end of this year.
vince young is a much better player than kerry collins. if the titans really want to start collins over him, they should trade vince.
Collins isn't the answer obviously, but he only turned the ball over 8 times. The year before that, Young turned the ball over 20 times. It's not a coincidence that they won 13 games one year and only 10 the other. Young needs to grow up before he takes over as a starter.
it's definitely no coincidence that they won more games. haynesworth only played 13 games the year before, but he played 14 last year. and the year before, lendale white led the team in carries with his 3.7 yard per carry average while last year chris johnson led the team in carries with 4.9 yards per carry. having their best player for one additional game along with having a much better running back carry the ball the majority of the time definitely helped their record. of course, neither thing had anything to do with vince.
Haynesworth sits the last two games and they go 1-1. They lose to the Colts in their last game with their starters pretty much not playing including Collins for most of it and the game they play their starters in, they hammer the future Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Football is and always will be a team sport. Young is one of the greatest college players of all time, but thinking he can come in and have near as success with the Titans as Collins did a year ago would be a terrible mistake for the Tennessee. Not because of wins and losses as I don't think they'll make the playoffs with either this year, but because Young is not mature enough to play the most important position. His skills need more honing and he needs to be a better leader. The fact that he's coming out and wanting a trade now if he's not the starter is further proof that he doesn't' get it. For a coach like Jeff Fisher you need to earn your keeps and Young hasn't. Young would be wise to shut up and learn a little from Collins. Not Collins' skills, but his leadership and how he handles himself. I would say Jeff Fisher is the reason Tennessee did anything whatsoever the last two seasons and not Young or Collins. I also think he'll be the same reason why Tennessee probably manages to win 8 or 9 games this year despite losing their best overall player and having a big problem at QB. If I were Vince Young, I'd listen to Fisher and he could be a better version of Randall Cunningham in time. If Young continues on this same path he'll continue to turn the ball over 20 times a year and probably be out of the league in the next five year.
the thing is, sure, vince young needs to earn his spot. but so does kerry collins. kerry collins didn't do shit. he wasn't better than vince young. handing the starting job to collins because vince needs to "earn it" is just stupid. vince is the better player and should be the qb. and if they don't want him there and playing and just want to play all these stupid games with him, they should trade him.
Collins has been to the NFC Championship game twice and a Super Bowl once. He's done enough where he's going to be respected in the locker room and any for that matter. I'm not a Kerry Collins fan, but I certainly wouldn't toss him to the side when my plan b is a guy who has gone awol, wanted to retire, and acts like he's still in college. I won't argue that Young is a better talent than Collins, but Young is a talent. Nothing more. He needs to become a QB first and foremost. He's not there yet and sometimes the best thing to do with a guy like Young is make him sit and let him mature and learn the game the slow way. It's worked with Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers. A guy Young reminds me of a bit at least attitude wise is Ryan Leaf and San Diego threw him in right away and looked how he turned out. You have to be careful with players like that and sitting him now is probably as much beneficial to him as the team.
