Cung Le defeated Frank Shamrock in March of 2008. It was his only fight that year. He hasn't fought since and has no intention of returning soon. He is busy making movies. It could be another six to eight months before he even gets into fighting shape, and at 37 years old he might not ever come back. The only opponent he's talked about is rematching Frank Shamrock, which would be pointless anywhere but in San Jose. Strikeforce could easily throw Robbie Lawler and Kazuo Misaki in the cage and make it an interim title fight. Then when Le finally does get back they can have a unification bout.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? Strip him. If he doesn't want to defend it, he doesn't deserve it.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? I think so, too. Titles are for fighting champions; right now the championship is just a highlight on his resume. I seriously doubt Strikeforce is gaining anything by his film work. Also, for the record, I think Nick Diaz would kick the shit out of Le.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? If it's not due to an injury, you should be defending your title IMO. 185 is a fairly solid weight class for Strikeforce, they should have an active champ
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? What about Alistair Overeem? Overeem hasn't fought for Strikeforce for 18 months.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? yeah but their HW division is so thin it's hard to say who he should have been fighting. However, he should have been fighting Brett Rogers for the title for the upcoming Strikeforce card so if he's not doing that, he should be told to fight or hand over the belt.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? Scott Coker was the one that didn't want Rogers fighting for the title yet, he said it himself that Rogers still needs more seasoning. So that is why Overeem didn't fight, it's not because Rogers or himself didn't want the fight for sure, it was completely because the CEO didn't want it to happen. Also, atleast Overeem has fought in some capacity in the past 12 months, even if it wasn't for Strikeforce. Cung Le hasn't had any fights at all in the past 12 months, which shows everyone he isn't willing to fight at all. Overeem is willing I would believe.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? I agree with Celtic Fan. If he's not injured then he should be stripped. It's not fair to the other fighters deserving of a title shot.

Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? Le won't be stripped, but Strikeforce is going to introduce an interim middleweight strap.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? I think he should be stripped outright but failing that, Strikeforce is doing the right thing by introducing an interim belt. Strikeforce's middleweight division is lost without one. I'm hoping to see something along the lines of Robbie Lawler vs. Joey Villasenor for the strap, but they have a few other options, including Misaki, Rua, Radach, Smith, and Shamrock.
Re: Should Cung Le be stripped of his title? Le has stated that he will return to the gym in late September to begin prepping for a title unification bout.
