If it were coming off the books next year, NY wouldn't be trading him. He has a two-year player option, which I'm certain he'll pick up. I believe he's under contract for two more season.
As I said, it depends where it goes. If the ultimate destination is the #8 pick, I'm unenthused. The #8 pick in what most see as a weak draft doesn't really seem likely to bring in a big-time player, present or future. But if it's a first move in a bigger deal, well then, who knows. It may be a done deal, and Frye may be part of it. None of it can be announced until draft day, so we don't know.

Agreed. But again, this article implies the deal is a done deal. That doesn't make sense for Pritchard to take on such a deal not knowing what he can actually turn the #8 pick into. Sure, it could produce Ricky Rubio or Ramon Sessions, but there's also a very good chance it could only turn into Tyreke Evans. Too high of risk in this scenario. Too many uncertainties.

Is that the case with one's own free agents, too? If so, yeah, I guess he can't be, unless the deal is announced on July 1. I thought the July 1 date was to negotiate with outside free agents. I thought teams can always talk to "their own" players.
Nope. Telfair was a lousy passer - he was the very model of a young point guard who could NOT create offense for others. No comparison in terms of assist rate. Telfair turned out to be an NBA player, though a poor one. Sergio will be far better. iWatas

I don't agree. Both had great passing ability, but both had problems turning that into great distributing ability. You are only looking at one side of the coin. While Rodriguez had superior Assist Rates, Telfair had superior (lower) Turnover Rates. So while Rodriguez was assisting on more of his teammates' baskets with his passing, he was also creating more turnovers. That does not a great distributor make. I think Rodriguez is likely to be the same low-impact NBA player that Telfair has turned out to be.

I'm pretty sure the Knicks would look to unload Curry before Jeffries. A little birdie told me two of the three players KP interviewed in Chicago were Stephen Curry and Johnny Flynn, FWIW. Discover69 over at Club Blazers, the boardie with inside scoups, said KP is hot after Rubio.
Someone mentioned it previously but my guess would be: Sergio, Travis and #24 for #8 and Jeffries. The cap hit would be about 3 mil. That leaves us room to get another player but doesn't give us enough to get a someone above the MLE. The only reason a deal can't be announced now but could be announce on draft day is that one of the first round picks is involved. NY has already traded away next years first and you can't trade away your first pick in 2 straight drafts. Plus teams don't want to give away flexibility in the future if they can just wait a couple of weeks to announce it. If KP is going to give up a chunk of our cap space I would expect other deals to happen prior to the FA period to secure a player or to clear more cap space.
