That might be true but when he isn't doing well on the offensive end he isn't effective and this year Van Horn has been downright terrible on the offensive end. I could look up stats to prove it but 1 game out of every 5 isn't going to get it done. This team needs defense anyway and Powell brings more of it. This team has Dampier, Harris, and Daniels as backups so Van Horn's so-called offense isn't needed. We have other options.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>This team has Dampier, Harris, and Daniels as backups so Van Horn's so-called offense isn't needed. If were thinking of any championship run, Suns will be one of the teams we face most likely.
game 1 Dallas vs. Phoenix W 111 - 108 2OT game 2 Dallas vs. Phoenix W 102 - 96 game 3 Dallas vs. Phoenix L 107 - 115 game 4 Dallas vs. Phoenix Thu 4/13/06that first game is the only one that KVH has played in. he had a pretty good game of 15pts, 6reb. most of the players on the mavs have pretty good numbers against the suns. dirk has doubles-doubles in i believe each one. daniels and howard both avg about 15 pts each. Harris plays real well against them too. i think if they meet in the western conference finals, the mavs will be ok with powell playing back-up pf. plus its not like he is going to be playing a lot of minutes in the playoffs anyways. in the past when KVH has been injured this season(and thats been alot) avery uses griffin and howard in the 4 spot when dirk is getting a breather. Mavs would be better with KVH, but i think they'll still be fine with Powell
Well Van Horn looked miserably against Horry and he played his worse games against San Antonio this year. We're not playing Phoenix till the WCF if we get past San Antonio first. Also Phoenix without Amare I think we can beat.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>We're not playing Phoenix till the WCF if we get past San Antonio first.</div>No sh!t, that's why I said if were thinking about a championship were gonna play them.
Wait, wait, look at it this way...Spurs over KingsSuns over LakersMemphis over Nuggets (record-wise and defensively Memphis owns)Mavericks over ClippersSo that means...Winner of 1st Seed and 8th Seed plays Winner of 4th and 5th SeedWinner of 2nd Seed and 7th Seed plays Winner of 3rd and 6th SeedWinner of 3rd Seed and 6th Seed plays Winner of 2nd and 7th Seed... right? That means after that, it's...San Antonio vs. DallasPhoenix vs. MemphisDang, Phoenix is lucky.

I just don't see him being a factor even if we play Phoenix. For whatever offense we get out of him he hurts us equally on defense and possibly more. Powell would be another option to put on Amare if Amare is healthy and if he isn't than the Mavs should win the series anyways. So even against Phoenix Van Horn isn't needed.

I'm sorry but I don't see anything special about Powell right now, that makes him a good defender, and he doesn't have the offense. The only positive I've seen of Powell is his ability to rebound. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>For whatever offense we get out of him he hurts us equally on defense and possibly more.</div>Cliched statement there, prove to me when he's on the floor, the defense sags. When I watch Van Horn, I see him out there trying to play d, bodying up guys. He doesn't stand out there like a stick.
Yeah, he puts in effort, Rok, something we agreed on , lol...Seriously, though, he WOULD be a great player to use in a Suns-Mavericks game. Put him in there at small forward instead of Josh Howard, because Van Horn will be hitting lots of open jumpers.
When playing the Suns i think instead of taking howard out, you take out diop or dampier and insert van horn. howard plays pretty good against the suns.
That would take away the rebounding advantage the mavs have over the suns. The spurs showed the way how to beat the suns. You have slashing guards and big man that attack the boards relentlessly. You will lose if you try to match their size and go small.

The fact he can hit the long range shot and go downlow, Suns have to body him, which leaves other players with less pressure.
Van Horn average 3.6 rebounds in 20.6 minutes. Josh Howard averages 6.3 rebounds in 32.8 minutes. So no way is Van Horn a good rebounder. Also anytime Dirk and Van Horn are out there at the same time the defense gets significantly worse.
Dude, Dirk is a great pick-and-roll defender, and YOU KNOW THAT.Josh is an awesome rebounder, man, but look at his situation. Is it possible to grab a rebound when you're playing perimeter defense? No.Howard usually defends near the basketball.Just watch tomorrow night and you'll know what I mean...
Yeah but you need a tough player in the middle to scare people away from attacking the middle. Dampier and Diop both do that. You want to have 1 of those players out there at all times. Mbenga is nice also though more raw.

Look at his years before Dallas. He's a good rebounder, just doesn't get much opportunities with the rebounders on our team and coming off the bench. He still can rebound against the Suns, and why he works well against the Suns as opposed to Damp/Diop is his ability to stick with the smaller lineups Suns use. If your gonna play the Suns, their gonna play your bigs of the game just like they've done all year. Damp/Diop can not stick with the smaller players. Van Horn can matchup better. But all this talk is redundant as Van Horn has basically played his *last* game as a Mav.

That team would be terrible on offense and would struggle guarding the perimeter on defense. Diop can't get out easily to guard players that can shoot outside 15 feet.
