I don't think anyone posted this but here goes http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2009/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-090610 You need insider to read the rest of the article, I will just post who he said the Blazers will take. Other Notables Hansbrough going 11 Blair going 16 Maynor 17
Yeah I like this pick too. He was of the fastest, most agile, and strongest at the combine. Not tops in anything but high in all of them. And in the speed ones he was the only guy his size up near the top. Seems like a great hustle guy that can bang cause of his strength also.
i agree. sounds like one of those classic role players that can come off the bench and do some work. never going to be a star but a very solid nba guy.
Surprised they have Hansborough at 11. I haven't heard anything about him going earlier than late 1st early 2nd.
Well he is either one of two things. He is either versatile, and can play multiple positions well, or he is a tweener like Travis, and cannot thrive at either position, and only have a good game when the matchup is "just right".
Summers 248 lbs.. Outlaw 207. Actually I have never seen Summers Play so I had to go with something smartass like this
Summers may be heavier than Outlaw, but he's an equally poor rebounder. No thanks. These are his weaknesses from DraftExpress: - Stuck between 3 and 4 - Turnover prone - Ball-handling skills - Back to basket scoring - Lateral quickness - Doesn't always play hard - Mental toughness - Physical Toughness - Questionable intangibles - College system makes him difficult to evaluate - Not productive enough - Poor assist/turnover ratio - Poor rebounder - Pull-up jumper - Relies too heavily on outside shot Doesn't sound like he's well suited to be either a 3 (bad handle, poor lateral quickness) or a 4 (poor rebounder, weak back-to-the-basket game) in the NBA. Classic tweener - in the bad way. I want our back-up 4 to be a banger. A great rebounder and someome who puts a body on somebody and pushes them out of the paint and isn't afraid of playing physical defense. I don't want a soft, jump shooting 3 masquerading as a 4. BTW, DraftExpress has him going at 35. 24 is too early, and I wouldn't even want him at 35 (or even 55). BNM
I wouldn't mind the Blazers taking Hansbrough at 24. He's low risk, low upside. I think he'll be a career back-up (or a starter on a crappy team), but I think he'll be a very good role player, high energy guy off the bench and solid contributor in limited minutes. DraftExpress now has him going 20 to Utah (makes sense if they lose Boozer and move Millsap into the starting roll). After measuring out a little bigger than expected, and having some good camps/workouts, he's been moving up, but this is the first mock I've seen that has him in the lottery. BNM
Yeah I was looking for his profile on draft express.. from what I heard I expected to find him somewhere in the 1st round.. I had to search all the way into the second round dammit!
Sounds almost as terrible as this guy (from draft Express): -lack of a standout trait that he can bank on at the next level. -he doesn’t have that “blow-by” explosiveness or “dunk contest” leaping ability -“consummate roleplayer” type at the next level, as opposed to a full out star. -he can still work on making his 3-point shot a more consistent part of his repertoire. -doesn’t look to shoot the longball very often, and that will likely have to change at the next level. -his play borders on passive. -there are times when he is too willing to let other players dominate the ball. -he likely will be playing a complimentary role in the NBA -bad knee, which has bothered him for quite some time now. -a couple of surgeries may have robbed him of a bit of explosiveness. -his knee will get lots of attention from NBA teams.
Wasn't there an article a few years back which said that if you drafted purely out of North Carolina, UConn, and I can't remember the 3rd school, they were listing off the team's you would have had on the floor, and it was flat out sick. Anyhow that being said, I think Hansborough is almost a perfect fit at backup PF/3rd center. He brings toughness, he stayed multiple years under a top tier coach to learn in college(A coach who has produced many NBA players at that.) He rebounds, he is capable of scoring. Hell the one time I saw him dunk on that 7'6" dude is almost enough to make me want him on the team alone.
I don't know if he can guard/rebound with all centers, even backups. That was obviously a travel, but it was very cool.
Nope. Sounds totally different to me. Sure there were questions about Roy (there are about every player), but he had a clear position and the skills to be a solid player at the next level. He was also a 1st team All-American. Summers couldn't even make 3rd Team (or even honorable mention) All Big East. So, Roy was considered on of the top 5 players in all of college basketball and Summers isn't even consider one of the top 20 players in his own conference. Go back and read the minuses on Summers again. He doesn't have the handles or lateral quickness to be a 3 at the NBA level, and he doesn't have a low post game or rebounding ability (let alone the size) to be a 4. The guy has the body of an undersized power forward, but likes to jack up perimiter jump shots. If I'm looking for a back-up 4, I don't mind him being a little undersized if he's willing to bang in the paint and get after it on the glass. Summers is neither one of those things. So, again, no thanks. BNM
