Espn's True hoop links to a rumored deal between the celts and kings where rondo is swapped for thompson and the #4. Can't paste the link.

If rondo is available i would like pritch to certainly make an offer. Rondo would jump to the top of my off season list.

    Would you?

What package would do it if so?

    Bayless, outlaw and the 24?

    Bayless and rudy?

The guy averaged a triple-double in the playoffs and they're trading him?

This should raise some red flags but I would still make a pitch for him.

It sure seems like the reason Rondo is available is because he is selfish and a bad teammate. While he is a great talent, I'm not sure he is what we want?

KP seems to concentrate a lot on the character of a player. . . and like others have mentioned, if Rondo is available after having a great year, there must be some attitude issues going on.

I believe this team has enough leadership and character so that one bad apple (if Rondo is that) won't mess it up. Rondo, while a bad shooter is a top 5 (young) PG as of right now. If we could get him without BIG3+Batum, you absolutely have to cnsider it. If we can get him without Rudy, it's a no brainer.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Rondo is one of the best young point guards in the game. On a par with Deron Williams, IMO. I find it extremely hard to believe that he's available, and Thompson/#4 seems way too little.

If he really is available, Pritchard should do whatever he can to get him, if it can be done without trading Roy, Aldridge or Oden. I love Batum, but I'd make him available for a talent like Rondo.

I'd happily trade Bayless, Outlaw and the #24 or Bayless and Rudy. Or Bayless, Rudy, Outlaw and the #24. ;)

It might not be too little if Rubio is available at #4.

Though, rumors did surface this week that Ainge is keeping a close eye on Tyreke Evans.

Wow... Rondo must be a cancer to deal with if Boston is considering leaning on a rookie PG in this draft for their final few runs at the title. Where are those Boston fans that always chime in on this board?

Rondo is intriguing. Obviously there are some issues in Boston, but can a guy who averaged 8.2 APG and less than 10 FGA/G (9.5, to be exact) really be considered a selfish player? Of course, his FGA/G during the play-offs exploded to almost 16, but his APG also went up to 9.8. That was probably a function of match-ups and no KG.

If a team loaded with veterans like KG, Pierce and Ray Allen can't keep Rondo in line, would he destroy the chemistry on a young team like Portland? The thing Ainge and Rivers seemed most frustrated with Rondo during the play-offs was his decision making with the game on the line. He had some great games in the play-offs (4 triple doubles in 14 games), but also had several games where he shot the ball horribly (4-17, 2-12, 3-12). Of course, in Portland, the ball will be in Roy's hands with the game on the line. So, hopefully Rondo's poor decision making would be less of an issue.

Again, very intriguing. I love Rondo's defense. He's one of the best defending PGs in the league. He's from the same rookie class as Roy and Aldridge. During that season, I tracked rookies and posted a weekly Rookie EFF Rankings. Rondo regularly filled up the box score with large numbers of rebounds (for a guard), assists and steals. His only problem as a rookie was he couldn't shoot the ball. Well, he seems to have fixed that to some extent (0.505 FG% in 2008-09). He's still a bad 3-point shooter, but luckily doesn't attempt very many (less than 1 a game) and a far below average FT shooter.

The guy certainly puts up impressive numbers. He had a PER of 18.8 during the regular season and 19.7 during the play-offs (in spite of shooting poorly). His DRTg of 100.9 this year and 98.4 the year before are also excellent - top 10 in the league. He has also been top 6 in defensive win shares the past two seasons and has been in the top 10 in steals all three years he's been in the league. Obviously, he'd really help our perimeter defense. He was also top 10 in assists (5th), APG (6th) and AST% (7th) this season.

If he's willing to be happy with less than 10 shots a game (as he was during the regular season in Boston) and defer to Brandon with the game on the line, he'd be a great fit in Portland. He can lock down opposing PGs on defense and be a 4th scoring option on offense (as he was in Boston behind Pierce, Allen and KG). It all depends on his attitude and willingness to accept a specific role. I'll leave that up to KP and company to decide.

Rondo is on the level of Rose/Deron and a tier below Paul. He must have some major problems if these rumors are true that they could move him. If an alpha male like KG can't keep him in check, who can?

Rondo is not available to you unless Roy is available to us. I can't believe people buy into this crap.

Boston has a severe lack of length on their second unit (and even their 1st unit without KG). The Blazers exposed that when we beat them in Portland without Roy and Orlando totally exploited it in the play-offs. Once KG went down, Perkins was the only halfway decent player they had left with any length. Powe and Big Baby are both undersized (well in height anyway). Plus Powe tore his ACL during the play-offs. They desperately need big bodies and Thompson would give them one.

The 4th pick could then be used on a replacement for Rondo. This is a weak draft in general, but there are multiple promising PG prospects.

So, Boston would be giving up a player who seems to have worn out his welcome (for whatever reasons) and would address their most glaring need, and hopefully a replacement for the player they are trading. I suspect they will probably also use their MLE on a veteran PG (likely NOT named Marbury) as a back-up/insurance in case their rookie PG struggles.

My bet is that the story is inaccurate....though we are talking about Ainge here.

Given the make-up of the Celtics, Rondo doesn't have to be a "cancer" in the usual sense. The mere fact he is an emerging star and wants to be a team leader could be causing friction with the old guard. There is also the issue of money. Rondo is going to want a big raise, and Boston may be unwilling to give him that big second contract. Bringing in 2 younger players for one could help their depth and put off financial judgement day.

Again, it strikes me as silly for a team to think that way.

What would be the point then of coming out with this kind of stuff? It just drives down the value of your players.

    How dumb rumors get started:

Boston: "Hi. I'm calling because I'm interested in acquiring Thompson."

Sacramento: "Interesting. I really like Rondo, and I would definitely throw in our lottery pick if you'd be willing to deal him."

Wow, that's not what I was saying. My point is that Rondo is not available unless somebody blows us away with an offer like Roy.

Who said it came from anywhere? How easy is it for people to make shit up? Rondo is the most valuable asset we have in trade talks, so of course his name will come up in fantasy trade scenarios involving the Celtics.

However, this is Ainge we're talking about. He's the same guy almost every Celtic fan wanted kicked out of office before McFail interjected.

Interesting you would say that considering it isn't true.
