<span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'></span>NBA Notes: Injuries could lead Kemp to MavericksBy Seattle Times news servicesDALLAS ? Shawn Kemp in a Mavericks uniform?Unlikely, but don't rule it out. The loss of Keith Van Horn for possibly the rest of the season and the playoffs with a broken right hand has Dallas scrambling for help. The question becomes how to get that help.Though the Mavs (55-19) snapped a season-high three-game losing streak with Sunday's 103-79 rout of Denver, injuries have kept the team in limbo. The Mavs petitioned the league Saturday night for a hardship exception to sign a free agent. According to the rule, at least four players would have to be injured and sidelined at least two weeks.Devin Harris (quadriceps), Marquis Daniels (neck) and Adrian Griffin (hamstring) are also out.Pavel Podkolzin could also be part of the injured list. The center is recovering from a stress fracture in his right foot and is essentially on a rehabilitation assignment with Fort Worth of the D-League.Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of basketball operations, hopes to get a ruling from the league today or Tuesday. Finding a replacement for Van Horn to play behind Dirk Nowitzki is the focus. The team has checked into Kemp, the former Sonic, who retired three years ago because he was overweight. He has reportedly slimmed down in an attempt to make a comeback and met with coach Avery Johnson recently.Team owner Mark Cuban admitted the current state of his team is somewhat disconcerting."It's not lucky," he said. "No one wants to lose games, but being healthy is more important."</div>I actually wouldn't mind this risk, considering our management, this could be a nice pickup. A low risk - high reward move.

If Kemp is in shape, he would be a solid asset as a back-up for short stretches. By the way, how old is Kemp now?

36, it will interesting if the league gives us the exception. The fact he met with Avery and Avery seems to approve makes me like the possible move, because Avery worked with Diop before signing him.

What's the worst that can happen? If he doesn't do well then just don't play it. Shawn Kemp is better then nothing. It is definately worth the risk. Because KVH is injured, you're better off having someone to replace him then no one.

Would be fun to have him on the team. But brace yourself before Barley rips on Mavs rest of the season. Good to see Kemp is showing some effort though, there for awhile after he left the NBA he sat around and did nothing. I doubt it happens but would be a good rotation behind Dirk

    Re: Kemp to Mavericks!?

Kemp could probably come in for about 10-15 minutes and play at small forward and power forward, just like Keith Van Horn.

    Re: Kemp to Mavericks!?

Kemp is more of a power player. i doubt they would put him at Small foward. i think he'd be another body against SA, but not good for a series against Phoenix. i would rather have Josh Powell than Kemp.

How about Josh Powell at SF and Kemp at PF for backing up?

    Re: Kemp to Mavericks!?

Adrian Griffin is not an awesome defender. He is better than average though. The other thing he does is he can rebound well for a guard.

9-24 for 24 points. At least we blew them out so badly Phil Jackson took a technical foul for delaying a timeout.

    Re: Kemp to Mavericks!?

He went 5-22 and Howard and Harris guarded Kobe to. They all had success so we could say Kobe had a bad night from shooting. Another player that should get credit is Diop's help defense on Kobe.
