Boston Herald - With Paul Pierce eligable to become an unrestricted free agent in 2007 if he exercises his player option, the Boston Celtics are planning on talking to Pierce this offseason about a contract extension, according to the Boston Herald. And the good news for Celtics fans is, despite constant trade rumors surrounding him, Pierce plans to listen.?Definitely, I want to talk about that,? he said. ?I know that?s a situation that?s coming up, but I probably won?t get much into that until the season?s over. It?s just good to know that a team wants you around for an extended period of time and wants to talk to me about it.??We?ve had our problems - things that are going to happen with a young team - but I definitely like where this team is headed,? he said. ?I like our young guys and I like the mix we have after the trade (with Minnesota).?The Celtics are aware of how mixed up their mix would be if Pierce departs.?It?s not just how great a player Paul is,? director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. ?You have to look and see how he?s developed as a leader and how the young guys look up to him and follow him.?We just want Paul to stay around, and I?ll sit down with him and his agent this summer to talk about an extension.?

Yeah you made a good point dogma mentioning ESPN, they had a poll on NBA fastbreak saying who will be traded in the off-season and it was bunch of players that are really good but on mediocre ball clubs. Garnett, AI, Pierce, were on it to name a few. And like 2% of the votes were for Pierce and both of the analyists (Legler, anthony) were both saying it's time for Pierce to move and they expect him to leave. Why would he leave a city which he loves, he's the captain of the team, he gets to play as much minutes as he wants to and gets as many touches as he wants to, the fans love him, he's 99.9% a lock to get his number retired here, RED <Censored> AUERBACH absolutely loves him....I know I'm ranting but my god Pierce loves it here and we love him, enough of the pointless trade rumor speculation.

Yeah we hear this about Iverson too, obviously he isnt't leaving Philly, you just have to understand the situation and be a fan of the team to get it. Same thing with Pierce, he's going nowhere and it's good to see this extension talk.

That would make him 34 at the end of the extension. Ya I guess that would be perfect, putting a little bit past his prime. Then he could re-sign for a moderate contract to help the young guys and finish his career in Boston.
