He wants to trade Love to the Grizz for the 2nd pick to draft Rubio, while keeping the 6th pick and getting someone else. Not a bad idea if you want to rebuild. They SHOULD draft Thabeet with 2 and hope Rubio falls to 6. There are also a lot of other serviceable PGs they can get besides Rubio. That way they have an actual 5 and not a 4 playing 5. Explain to me how that's not doing it right? Jefferson is a natural power forward, Memphis needs a 4 badly and love would fill that need, and thabeet paired up with Jefferson with a great point guard prospect would make Minny a well balanced roster and probably a playoff team in 2 or 3 years. If Kahn pulls this off then he's prosecuting the KP/Presti/Spurs model to perfection.
IMO 2006 was a much better draft. Comon with players like Rudy Gay sliding to #10? This isn't even close. I don't even think Blake Griffin would have gone top 3 that year.

To be fair - the 2006 draft + Griffin should probably look like: Roy, LMA, Rondo - or Roy, Rondo, LMA - before Griffin is taken...
Yeah looking at it today. But that could easily change depending on how Griffin pans out. He said that Griffin wouldnt go top 3 in that draft. The top 3 was weak.
To me Kahn is doing it the right way. Bad teams build through the draft and then get out of it as quickly as possible. Portland went 06', 07' and 08'. Bad teams like the Clippers draft in the lottery every year. If the draft is weak, like this supposedly is, then as a GM of a bad team you have to make the most out of it like KP did back in 06'. If you have two players like Thabeet and Rubio for example that you think will be the best out of the class then you go get them and hope it gets you at worse to the end of the lottery next year, and then to the playoffs the following year. Yea, but lets face it, the Bargiani pick that was due to a poor evaluation or lack thereof, of the talent. There have been several times (Skitavilli comes to mind) where NBA teams have rolled the dice on an unknown talent from Europe, and ended up on the short end of the stick. Morrison on the other hand. MJ would have to tell you why they did that one. I have no idea. There are always these guys that can dominate in college but just don't have the speed for the NBA. Danny Ferry was that way too. I guess you can look at it from the up above points, that the draft wasn't deep, but just badly executed by teams scouting. Guys who slid, simply should not have.
I agree on those points.. a lot of it was scouting.. but also that bad scouting could be done if Griffin was in the draft that year too. He said if in that draft Griffin wouldnt have gone top 3.
And I stand by that. I think with the college players that year he would have paled in comparison. Part of why he stood out this year was because the competition was so weak.
A better idea is to keep Love, who has proven he's going to be a stud and is already better than Thabeet will ever be. With the 6th pick, there are plenty of solid point guards available. Thabeet will be a bust. Guaranteed. And I've never been wrong about a prospect. Just ask me.
