OK... so we talk about options and we talk about who we want the Blazers to pick... Who don't you want them to pick? I'm watching the NBATV draft overview and they had Sam Young associated with us, which caused me to create this thread. I do NOT want the Blazers to draft Young. Why not? He's old. He's older than Webster and Batum and Rudy, and he's only 9 months younger than Outlaw. He's unpolished. He still has lousy handles and a shaky offensive skillset. He doesn't seem to do anything particularly well. His defense appears to be his best skill, but... I don't know that will be enough to get him minutes over, say, Batum with the Blazers. Whattaya think? What other players do you hate? Ed O.
Sam Young - 24 is young but it's awfully old for a rookie straight out of college. BJ Mullens - No-IQ player with zero feel for the game. Austin Daye - I think the Ricky Sanchez clone is going to struggle bigtime. Not strong enough to be a PF and not quick enough for a SF. Chase Budinger - No explanation needed.
No to Psycho T: he's probably going to be a semi-decent player, but I hate his guts (purely emotional reaction on my part) No to Brandon Jennings: Telfair 2.0 No to Omri Casspi: Sloooooow and loooooow release on his jumpshot
I personally would be very happy to have us draft Young - he's immediately useful. He could be Ruben Patterson with a brain. I agree with all the other three, though, and I think they'd be my three least faves. I'm not sold on Jordan Hill or Ty Lawson either, but us drafting them wouldn't make me wail and gnash my teeth like those three.
Do not like jennings. Dont care for ellington as much as the experts. Really loathe hansbrough. Feel thabeet is not going to pan out, atleast for as high as he will go.
Wow, I just don't get the Hansbrought hate. Since when did it become fashionable to hate guys who play their asses off? BNM
About the only picks that would totally freak me out would be Budinger (if we stay at 24) or Jennings (if we trade up.) I have Thabeet and Curry down as potential busts - at least relative to how high they will be drafted - but I can at least see *some* rationale for gambling on them.
I think mostly I hate the Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas fawning over him for the past 4 years, he's a decent player, but he gets way too much credit for being 'all heart' ... being intense and playing with a bloody nose doesn't make you a good NBA prospect. I hate him for the same reason I hate Tim Tebow: constant media attention because he's intense which really masks average (pro) talent.
jennings...too much attitude for a scrub in europe..... chase budinger...wow this dude NEVER developed from a sophmore in high school blair ...we have enough knee trouble on the team for the past 6 years.....
Bassy wishes he had that kind of athleticism and explosiveness. One of Telfair's biggest weaknesses was his ability to finish at the rim. Jennings, as you can see, doesn't have that problem. My answer for who to stay away from- DeJuan Blair. Because he reminds me more of Oliver Miller than he does Paul Millsap or Barkley, and he also has a pretty daunting knee injury history.
