On all of the boards im apart of, I've seen many different views on what makes an NBA player great. I've heard mainly biased opinions. But I want to hear what you think makes a player GREAT.i keep hearing how MJ is better then kobe because of titles, or this player is better because of titles, but at the same time, ask yourself who is the greatest PF of all time. IMO it is karl malone, i think he is the greatest PF of all time, however, people are so quick to use a double standard with kobe saying that MJ is better because he has 3 more titles, but the bottom line is that both players have their titles, both players have won and been successful.so, without being biased, explain to me what makes a player great.IMO, it is a number of things, his overall play, which can include his mid range jumper, his 3 pointer, his high post game, and overall offensive ability. also his defense, which can include numerous things like perimeter defense, and high and low post defense.the only thing i hear about kobe, about him not being good is that he doesnt have the titles, and people bring up no facts to support why he isnt better then MJ, or isnt great.face it, both can score points, that is a fact, both can rebound the ball well, both can pass the ball well, both can play defense well, both have been all nba defense, both can score, but to me it is the intangibles that make kobe better are the way he takes over games, and just looking at his two games this year against DAL, and TOR, just show what he can do.it will always be debateable about who is better MJ or Kobe, but my whole point is that people conjur up their own bias' to say what a player is or isnt, and it is a battery of things which can make you come up with a conclusion of calling a player great, not soley one thing, so that is why i am asking, what makes a player great, cause all i am seeing is double standards, and bias' get in the way, and all i keep seeing is how kobe sucks and he'll never be this or that, but he is DOING exactly what people say he isnt.have fun with this one, i just want some facts here because if malone is the greatest PF of all time in most peoples eyes, how can kobe be so far away from jordan? and according to most people if titles make a player the greatest ever, wouldnt bill russell be the best player ever since he has like 9???No I did not post this to just be a MJ vs Kobe topic. I wanna know exactly what makes an NBA player GREAT.
Well, IMO to be a top 10 player all time, you have to fit this criteria:-Won at least 1 championship, and won that/those championship(s) by being the main leader and main guy on your team. Without you, the team wouldn't be in Finals.-Have a list of awards/accomplishments/records.-Was a good team player and made others around him better.-Did some things special that seperated him from all other players in league.-Could perform in clutch and take over games, whether it be by scoring, passing or defending.-Dominated the era he played in.

Championships are nice, but a guy like Steve Nash is considered top ten of today because of making teammates better.
I still think without a ring....you will never be a top 10 player of all time. Championship is most important if you really want to be great. Example: TD is always considered better than KG because of his rings and KG's lack of success winning wise.

Nothing else really to add.
