Interesting that Pritchard is also apparently ruling out Freeland coming over next year (or anytime soon).

That article is about exactly what I'd hoped to read.

    Good news.

    Wait.
That's impressive. Petteri played 14 minutes worth of defense while only actually playing 11 minutes. Must be some sort of Finnish time-warping superpower...

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Koponen played 16 minutes. By "11 minute stint," I assume they mean one of the times he was on the floor. Came off the bench, played 11 minutes (during which time his team extended its lead) and then went back to the bench. Only to play again at another time in the game.

I think Playboy is such a dedicated defender that he is attached to the opposing player's hips even during time-outs!

    Nice piece on Koponen:

There's a lot more, specifically about Koponen. His team's owner seems to think the team's main problems were Earl Boykins and the coach who made him PG instead of Koponen, so has decided to fire both!

Yep. I have much more faith in Koponen being able to play in the league than I do Freeland. That being said, I would be shocked if Koponen was ever anything other than a role player.

Those 2 pictures from Blazersedge, looks like maybe Kopo has put on a little bit of muscle?

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards having the team just renounce their rights.

If Batum, who is younger and less experienced, is already an NBA starter (and even Sergio has an NBA job)....what is up with these 2? Time to fish or cut bait. If they are good enough to crack the rotation - get 'em in uniform. If they aren't, quit wasting capspace on them.

Uh, if we're really looking at a big-time player at the 1 or 3 that we'd need an extra 1.6M for, why not just let Travis or Blake go, either in the S&T (my preference) or before July 1? If we get a big-time 3 (Hedo?), Travis will not beat out Batum for the backup minutes there, and will have to worry about ~10 mpg backing up LMA. If we get a stud PG (Hinrich?), then we're keeping Bayless as the backup and Blake's not getting a ton of minutes.

I fail to see a single good reason why we should not keep the rights to two young #30-slot draft picks, each progressing in Europe, that we don't have to pay a dime for until they come over, and then basically a 4yr/5M contract when we do bring them over. Each has a pretty good upside, and each is a player KP raves about.

Renouncing Travis or Blake before July 1st puts more urgency on getting something done in free agency. The benefit to Kopo and Freeland is they could be renounced after that time, and not count on the cap. It's not worth the risk to renounce Outlaw, HOPING you can sign someone. Agents will see that, and all of a sudden, they have more leverage, knowing you need the upgrade now.

its not wasting capspace...its following the spurs...leaving these two in europe to grow and mature..then to bring them in as 25 to 28 year old rookies...the spurs plan....

Ginobili, Oberto, Scola (whom they traded away in the end).
And they are doing it now with Splitter.
