I'd really rather see us get Ron Artest for the "New and Improved Travis Outlaw" role. We don't need more rebounding, we need toughness and defense at the 3/4 (either starting or off the bench). As a bonus, if we have Ron Artest, Houston doesn't.

However, Jamison would be a massive upgrade over Outlaw. I could get 100% behind that kind of deal.

Exactly. It's not a rebounder that we need. It's someone to play tough defense and be able to score a little bit.

We need another Batum, but bigger.

Yes. Jamison would be a massive upgrade over Travis

I agree Jamison is an upgrade over Outlaw. I don't agree with him being our starting SF. Should clarify that.

The way I look at it, it gives Batum that year or two on the bench to develope, but while not having to depend on him as a starter. He can still be brought in for defense on certain players in certain situations, nothing is stopping that additional play time.

Does any deal get done if Rubio falls to 5?

    I say no.

After the RLEC deal, I wonder if a deal will happen ever again, let alone under certain conditions...

I would like the flexibility he could bring in playing both F spots off the bench, while no thaving to focus primarily on one spot, if he was the starter. I think he would primarily play backup PF, much like Travis did for us, which would allow us to utilize lineups of Roy and Rudy on the court at the same time, while still using one of Blake, Bayless, Batum or whoever else is added ot the team.

Off the bench, I think he easily replaces Outlaw's scoring, and gives us a dynamic offensive second unit, and finally one with a veteran calmin gpresence to pull them out of rough patches.

As a starter, he's just another scorer out there, an dwhile I know we struggled scoring at times last year, I still feel our SF should be more of a role player, and not of the strictly scoring role player, like Outlaw, but as someone who could actually play some defense. If you start Jamison, starting out each game, one of eithe rhim or Roy is going to be covering the opposing teams best wing player. If it's Roy, then you run the problem of tiring him out on the defensive end, and if it's Jamison, well, we're fucked.

    This. Yes.

Jamison is a scorer and a rebounder, but he's not a defender, and I think that he'd get eaten up playing extended minutes at the 3.

I'd rather have Batum in the starting lineup, with Roy/Aldridge/Oden as the primary scoring options, and bring Jamison off the bench at either forward spot and provide scoring punch, along with Rudy and Bayless (if we kept him) in the second unit.

Jamison would almost certainly be a starter for us at the 3 spot. Even if Rubio won't slip to #5, Pritchard would almost certainly give the #5 and throw ins to get Rubio at whatever spot he goes. The numerous 2nd round picks, our 1st round pick, and the rights to players we have overseas should be enough to get Rubio.

I think that if Washington is going to make a deal where they, essentially, are willing to give away Jamison? I don't think that they're going to suddenly be willing to spend TENS of millions of dollars more merely because Rubio is available.

If the Wizards are simply willing to dump salary (like Thomas, for example) to go along with the lottery pick, then the deal becomes less likely, but I think either way that the Wizards are much more salary-motivated than talent-motivated and as much as I like Rubio I doubt the Wizards would be willing to change the course of their franchise because of him.

I hadn't thought of this, but trading for Jamison would fill our need for a backup PF as well. That makes his value a little higher for Portland than I originally thought.

Really? Perhaps he's worth more to us than the market would offer, but I think that if Bayless stayed another year and was in this year's draft he'd be a top 5 lock. Think about it- he would probably improve his 19 ppg average to maybe 23-24 ppg, leading Arizona, and probably just being a beast in the NCAA, dunking on people and wetting 3's. He'd definitely go ahead of guys like Thabeet, Hill, Flynn, and perhaps even Harden or Rubio.

Maybe. I don't value Bayless that highly. I didn't care for him when he was in Arizona and haven't though as much as other since.

From what I read on SI it looks like they made an offer for Butler, not Jamison. That is if any of it is true.

It probably isn't. The deals that actually happen are the ones that come out of left field. Like three boxes of popcorn for Richard Jefferson.

Though in fairness, the trade does allow them a chance to keep both Charlie V and Sessions.

Which in turn gives Portland one less free agent target in an already shit-tastic free agent pool.

A more accurate thread title would be "Blazers have not, and most likely won't have, anything to do with Washington".
