I think Bill considers himself a homer, and not stupid - so I don't know how much he would like you defending him. And yes, he's still bitter - he's been pretty clear on that.
I can, but I didn't. Hah! Good one!. Then why does not a week go by where he doesn't bash Greg Oden unmercilessly and call him a bust. Why the hate for a kid that struggled coming off major surgery? What did Greg Oden ever do to Bill Simmons to deserve so much hate? BNM
He had a mancrush on KD and advocated taking him #1 (Because of the way Oden walked ), and now he's taking every opportunity to bash Oden just he can say I told you so. Basically that, I think. I don't agree with him on Oden and the Blazers being overrated, I just don't think he's bitter they slipped to #5, traded for KG and won a championship.
Actually, he would have been thrilled getting Oden at No. 1. He changed his tune later. I'm not sure if it's the source of all the Oden hate, but he took not winning the 2007 lottery pretty hard. His column the next day was titled: "Welcome to the next decade of discontent". You may want to read it to understand just how devastated Simmons was when the Celtics ended up with the 5th pick. Sure, things ended up working out incredibly well for them (thanks ot a gift from Kevin McHale), but Simmons seems to have never gotten over that feeling that the Celtics got screwed in the 2007 lottery (like the Duncan lottery a decade earlier).
