This is why Nellie and Riley where in Atlanta. LOL. Dumping Crawford is addition by subtraction for the Warriors.
I always liked Law, he's just as good as any PG available in the draft except Rubio. I haven't followed Speedy since he left the Ws. Is he still the on-ball defender that he was? Or is he just going to be cut? Persumably that is the only move we will make at the PG spot. With Min getting #5 & 6 I can see them moving up to #2, I can see a scenario where Harden falls to # 7. If that happens do you think the Ws would have interest. He doesn't seems like a great fit in transition but he could be too good a value to pass up.
holy shit!! how much are we saving exactly!?? ok, law is on contract through 2012, getting paid $2,216,160, $2,940,844 and $4,026,015. But after this year is a team option. awesome. claxton is off the books after this year and he's getting paid $5,209,454...but we can cut him right!? Somebody who understands this salary stuff explain it to me...crawfords scheduled to get $9,360,000 this year, so are we essentially saving the $10,080,000 he woulda got in 2010-11 if he refused to opt out??? i have a headache now.
I think I got part of this rumor right and you filled it in . If we get Acie, then Watson is likely gone. But to get rid of Jamal's contract was huge and he may be happier in ATL.
I just saw that Law has a team option this year and the article says that Speedy's contract will be covered by insurance. Does that mean, if we don't pick up law, that we gave up Crawford without any money coming back?! If that's right I'd love to see us trade for Darko & #2 now that we're about 10MM under the cap. Unless I'm understanding the salaries wrong, then nevermind. EDIT: Oh, it's after next year that we can cut Law. Well this still should save enough to take back a salary for #2
We basically turned Crawford’s uncertainty into certain 7.4M off the books after this coming season. My gut tells me this is the first of a way to trade the #7, one or two of the expiring contracts (Law, Claxton) and current Warrior talent (Azubuike, BWright, Marco) for…something.
Talent wise, I don't like this trade. But it should help the team and Monta. So how much money will we be saving?
This is purely a financial move. I can't help but to think this is part of a bigger plan (hopefully) that involves the #7 pick and a current Warrior that is coveted (see above post).
I actually don't know what that means. Does that mean if we cut Claxton, we're only liable for 20% of $5,209,454?
I think the Warriors end up with a Injury Exception if Claxton can't play and the insurance covers his salary.
Is it Christmas? Unbelievable. Warriors get rid of Crawford and get salary relief? Is Billy Knight still in Atlanta? Sweet.
I love this trade, get it done before they have too much time to think about it. Of course knowing Rowell, he'll go and give Law an immediate 4 year extension.
I'm quoting this from a poster on GSoM: So, there goes my hopes that they can package Claxton or Law with the #7 for something else. This is to get Crawford's contract off the books and acquire two expiring contracts for potential trade pieces.
Even if they keep Law and Claxton it's still a good financial deal for the Warriors. Having the extra almost 2 million in cash and one fewer year of contract gives the Warriors more trade flexibility anyway, if not this year then definitely after this year.
They could still work a trade with a team and make it official after the Crawford deal gets executed.
IMO, this is a dream scenario for Golden State. Definitely addition by subtraction. They get rid of Crawford, who was not a winning piece of the formula, they open up more time to the players that really matter (Morrow, Bellinelli, Monta) and they get a PG prospect in Law who was the 11th pick two years ago, who tore it up at Texas and who won the Bob Cousy Award, presented to the nation's top point guard by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006-07. Law is a bigger PG at 6'3" 200lbs, which fits perfectly alongside Monta, and he was a winner in college. He's never really had time in Atlanta and in no way is a bust. Very different from Marcus Williams, IMO. I'm totally stoked with this deal as is. It makes it even sweeter that Claxton may not be able to play (thus giving insurance relief to GS) and that either way it frees up cap space to GS. Awesome first move for Larry Riley.
