TRAIL BLAZERS RENEW BROADCAST PARTNERSHIP WITH KGW THROUGH 2012-13 SEASON

17-year partnership continues with all KGW games in HD in 2010

PORTLAND, OR – KGW NewsChannel 8 and the Portland Trail Blazers announced today that they have renewed their broadcast agreement for the next four seasons.

KGW NewsChannel 8, the flagship television station of the Trail Blazers since the 1992-1993 season, will broadcast up to 20 regular season games in high definition on free over-the-air television through the 2012-13 season. The actual number of games aired each season is dependent on the NBA’s national broadcast schedule.

“We are pleased to continue a great over-the-air partnership by extending our relationship with KGW,” Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said. “Unlike fans in a lot of NBA cities, Trail Blazers fans in Portland are fortunate to have the city’s leading over-the-air affiliate make the commitment to carrying up to 20 games every season in addition to the comprehensive coverage of the team they provide each night.”

The “Rip City Uprise” that played to passionate sellout crowds at the Rose Garden also extended to the broadcast audience, where KGW’s ratings were up 37 percent over 2007-08. Six playoff games on KGW averaged a 17.1 local rating.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Portland Trail Blazers to make the games of this young rising team available to everyone in Portland,” said D.J. Wilson, KGW president and general manager. “We share the same passion and vision for our community and the same commitment to excellence. Having felt like the sixth man on the team with our incredible partnership over many years, we stand ready to cheer them on to victory and are very pleased to be awarded the over the air television rights for the next four seasons.”

Whatever they do, I hope they fix the worst SD feed in the history of the planet.

I'm pretty sure that it's both... I just see the CSN feed a lot more, because the only way I see KGW is when it's a KGW game AND they don't show the non-Blazers feed on the Season Pass.

I had not heard anything bad about our KGW shows, just how bad the CSN games looked.

Please do. It is very frustrating for us to bust our ass and provide you guys a clean product leaving the broadcasting truck, to only hear how shitty it looks once it gets into the hands of CSN. If there is ever any probs, let me know during the game. Don't tell my boss, but I check S2 out during the games!

I hope that I've expressed this before, but it's frustrating for me, as a viewer, seeing the awesome graphics and the great camera angles and so much goodness... but seeing it through the vaseline-like filter.

KGW, even in SD - is pretty decent quality, at least here in the home-market. What happens to it once it is sent via league-pass - I do not know.

I can say that down here in Medford the KGW SD broadcasts look HORRIBLE. However, I'm thankful I get to watch any games on TV at all.

And no more shitty remixes of the Blazers trumpet song for the intros. Use the original.

CSN SD looks horrible everywhere. Especially on the stretched out HD tv screen if you have one. MB promised all games in HD next season. If he lied, I'm gonna' snatch his wig off his dome in the middle of a game next season!
