E too - and since Capt. Kirk is an intergalactic celebrity - maybe also D? :dunno:

    You forgot one guy...Chris Paul.

Not that it hurts your point, I just thought the best point guard since Magic Johnson should be mentioned. ;)

Care to speculate regarding the Blazers and Bulls respective season records, though? I mean, who knows, with Heinrich for a season, the Blazers may just as well have ended up playing the Hornets instead of the Rockets.

The physical play was killing us at shooting guard, small forward, and power forward, not so much point guard. Aaron Brooks is just too quick for Blake or Sergio. I don't think Kirk would have helped that much with the physical disparity in that series.

And unless Hinrich is a star unbeknownst to us, I doubt he'd help with getting better calls from the officials :)

Oh. I meant E instead of D, but andalusian's assertion about his star power is convincing. I'll go A, E, and D!

I see what you mean about the physical play though at the other positions.

Hinrich started 4 games for the Bulls and was hurt for 32. How would that have helped out the Blazers?

How does Kirk Hinrich put this team over the top? Roy is one of the ten best players in the NBA and has led this team up from the shitty franchise it was into the second best team in the West.

Funny stuff in this thread for you to shit on Roy in order to prop up a lesser player in Kirk Hinrich. Telling as well as to what you know about basketball. Again, funny stuff.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Significantly better defense and slightly better passing than Blake. Whether it puts the team "over the top" isn't terribly relevant. A move can be good and improve the team even if it doesn't put them over the top.

How good the Bulls teams he's been on have been isn't all that relevant to his own level of play.

That wasn't his point, and I'm sure you know that.

If we take your comments literally, we should only make a trade if a player: A) Already has a ring, and B) Will "put us over the top" single-handedly. Those are unrealistic criteria, and I would bet you already knew that.

Hinrich is far from my first choice....but it beats doing nothing! Even modest improvement is better than stagnation. Based on their *entire careers*, Hinrich is a lateral move on offense and a clear upgrade on defense.

Hinrich won't put the Blazers over the top, but he will make them a stronger team. Blazers really look like they will be championship contenders, and Hinrich strengthens that team. Because of other GM's not liking Pritchard, the Blazers are unlikely to get a trade that puts them over the top. The Blazers becoming a perennial championship powerhouse is dependent on Greg Oden panning out to be at the very least, a dominant defensive force.

According to CBSSportsline, there have been no discussions between the Blazers and Bulls about Hinrich.

Hmmmmm. Maybe people were just rehashing old rumors but its interesting that Hinrich was telling friends that he likely was heading to Portland. You would think that his agent would've been the one to inform him that it was possible (or being discussed) don't you? I mean, why else would he say that?

I really think this Hinrich talk is a some screen. We could have had Hinrich a few times in the last couple years and wouldn't have had to give up that much. I really think we could have had Hinrich for the RLEC at the deadline last year. So, why go for him now. I think KP is using this to get a better deal for another PG maybe Conley, Harris, Nash, Kidd etc. I like Hinrich and is upgrade for Blake but like others have said KP/PA want to make the move now that puts us in the running for championships now and Hinrich would help but isn't the piece to put us up there with the Lakers/Cav's etc. If KP makes a trade in this draft it will be a complete surprise and will be someone we haven't really heard much talk about IMO.

Everything you say makes sense. But you know how it is this time of year, speculation is running amok, the stories of him telling his freinds the trade info might be speculation, the cbs sportsline story might be speculation, most of the threads on this board are speculation. I just threw it out there so some folks knew one source was saying the rumor was bunk.

True. I really wonder who KP is targeting as a PG upgrade. Everyone out there that is mentioned has issues one way or another.

Miller: older, can't shoot from the perimeter. Good distributor. Physical and gets to the line. Definite upgrade and good tutor for Bayless. Problem is that he is a free agent therefore would eat up all our cap meaning any upgrade for the SF position would be via trade.

Hinrich: great defender. ok shooter. Doesn't penetrate much. Available via trade.

Kidd: free agent who would use up our capspace. Not the defender he once was but amazing basketball IQ and distributor. Most likely to resign with Dallas

Nash: best distributor of the bunch. Plays the ole defense making our perimeter defense worse if you can believe that. back issues and an expensive contract. Would have to trade numerous people to make salaries work.

Harris: young and full of potential. Played worse defensively last year then in the past, likely due to carrying the load for the Nets. Tall and physical so he won't be bullied easily. Probably the hardest to obtain of the bunch (my personal favorite though of the above mentioned). If we were to get Harris, then no point of eeping Bayless.

Conley: showing promise but a long way from being a great PG. What message does that send Bayless if we trade for Conley. I'm interested but there are a lot of questions about him. Can be more hype then not.

Sessions: Likely obtainable. Great a getting to the rim and distributing. Probably would get Oden the ball a lot for easy baskets/dunks based off his penetration but defense is suspect and can't hit an outside shot.

In other words, anyone we go after has warts. It comes down to what we want to get out of them and that probably is most dependent on who is on the team (since with the right personal some of the warts can be covered up). No one is trading any of the elite PG's. So in essence we must pick our poison and take someone who has flaws in their game.

At the same time, maybe he is not targeting anybody. KP is great in the draft. He has shown no ability to go get a free agent.

What if Pritchard asked his fello KU alum to float the rumor for us to help divert attention elsewhere?

Is something like that even possible?
