After cheering for Barry/Phil Smith/Clifford Ray to JB Carroll/Sleepy Floyd to Run TMC to the 1991 CWebb to We Believe to.....Nellie/Rowell... If the Stoudamire deal goes down I am hanging up my "The City" jersey and tee and going to become a Suns fan. I am so despondent over this proposed trade. Oh yeah, I'm telling my partners not to re up on our courtside tickets too. So they want me to pay huge $$ to watch Monta/Stoudamire/Turiaf/Maggette/SJax? No thank you. That's just a horrible 2005 Atlanta Hawks type-team right there. Nellie telling those guys to just jack up shots, find the favorable iso matchup and spread the floor. Great. Stoudamire is on the downside of his worth and he's going to be a huge max guy for the next 5 years. I'd rather put Biedrins/Monta/Randolph/Wright/Bellinelli/Curry together and watch them get better. Oh yeah, that will be the Suns team looking down on the W's team. No thanks. Even the Dunleavy/Murphy teams had some hope they would get better. I'll still check up on you guys but I'll be coming at you with a Nash avatar.
Oh. Not looking good for you. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/06/25/20090625spt-sunsonline.html
Amare Stoudemire probably ends up in Chicago for Tyrus Thomas and other assorted garbage (Jerome James, Tim Thomas?) I just can't see Golden State doing this. They are idiots. Well Don Nelson is an idiot...so he just might do this. Curry and Biedrins? Warriors are going to suck next year (and I think Amare is a real deal superstar)...and Amare will leave in free agency. Why would you give up both Curry and Biedrins for a one year rental, that won't get you to the playoffs? (Just too hard to do out West). Warriors best bet is keeping Curry, and hoping he pans out into a star.
Yeah hopefully it doesn't happen. Way too much for the Warriors to give up. The 7th pick of the draft, Beans (someone who can actually play defense), and two young talents for the prima-donna Stoudimire? Although I guess Amare would fit in with Nellie because he plays no defense, the Suns would get away with a steal on this one. Fuck the Suns, they deserve to bask in misery.
Let's just assume for one minute that whatever deal happens (if it happens) that the Warriors actually do get better. What a thought, huh? There's always risk involved in big trades. After mostly 15 years of failure, what do the Warriors have to lose? Seriously.
Beans has been the MVP of this team the last 3 years. Totally underated in this league. And with Curry at point, those two will have a nasty pick-n-roll. If it's Beans/Wright/Belly, I can live. But if it includes the pick, too, then I do not like it at all. However, Nellie just came on KNBR's draft special with Tim Roye at 9:45 pm and gushed about how much he's looking forward to coaching Curry, and how he talked to Curry's dad, Dell Curry, and about how he thinks Curry will be playing right off the bat, alongside Monta.
I'm starting to wonder why I follow the warriors... Since 2001 they collected all this talent and it started coming around in 2007, and then ppppthhh back to square 1. If it takes another 6-10 years to even sniff the playoffs... well that's just horrible. This Amare trade has me worried about (what if he's an injury away and becomes the next Kenyon Martin or Antonio McyDess). Is there any concern for that? He's basically all about bullying his way in and using his athleticism to receive passes from Nash. I don't think his skills are even there to stop most other power forwards in the league defensively. Plus, the guy isn't a passer. That has me worried. I think Beans is even a better passer.
Well, if he's a bust it's only for one year (unless we give him a big contract and then he busts...) However, much like everyone else I am not actually for this trade. Like you said, I would rather the Warriors have a clear plan of attack. It seems Riley's is to get a big man (Bosh or Stoudamire) but both have contracts only til 2010. I would prefer just tanking for a year, getting a top pick, and having a year where we don't give out super-long-mega-contracts. (After next year most of our contracts will be 2-4 years left max). I don't mind having high paid players - just limit it to 3 years, unless you know it's a superstar. Doing otherwise is a risk far greater than the Warriors can afford, and are paying for (going all the way back to Jamison, Murphy, Dunleavy, even Richardson - overpaying is not the way to win, because owners get buyer's remorse after it, even if the player is decent). I was fine with building around Monta and Biedrins (and trying out Randolph) which would mean adding 1. a pass-first point and 2. an inside presence and 3. a shooting big man or wing. Randolph is kind of a versatile player, but his strengths aren't any one of those areas. But, that's the kind of team the Warriors need to build if the want to continue and win like this. I am stubbornly loyal, so I probably won't ever stop being a fan.. but I certainly am not a fan of Cohan and extremely doubtful of Riley right now.
Looks like Curry and Biedrins are on their way to Phoenix. http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/article/2009-06-25/stoudemire-reportedly-heading-warriors
Yeah, once I read the last article I posted, I figured it was a done deal. How do you feel about this, BG? Didn't you want the Bulls to make a move?
