I thought it was interesting that KP mentioned free agents wanting to come here to play with Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Blake and Joel. Sadly, to me that means Blalke will more than likely be back as either a starter or taking minutes from our supposed PG of the future, Bayless.
No, just mean there no trade right now involving Blake. He could still get traded. KP just shows here he values Blake greatly so if we do trade him we are going to get a even better player out of it.
Having Blake start again would be making a huge mistake. We either need to bring in a vet or trade for an insta-starter rookie (Rubio?). Worst case scenario is we need to start Bayless. I'm sorry but Blake is a liability at this point. If next year isn't about championship window (no trade or FA PG signing) then it's about development. If that's the case we need to give Bayless serious minutes as soon as he can possibly do an even half-way decent job. I must admit I'm worried that there is a chance that KP has fallen in love with his roster as many analysts accuse him of. If Outlaw is wearing a Trailblazers uniform next year I will lose it. Blake still being around would be annoying Outlaw would be pitchfork and torch time!
I really really REALLY dont see why so many people are so high on Rubio!!?!??! Even if he is the reincarnation of "Pistol Pete", HE DOESNT FIT THE SYSTEM!!!! Why do you think Sergio didnt pan out? Same damn thing. Also, I dont know why everyone thinks we are screwed with Blake starting again next year....he is a descent PG, not great by any means, but good enough to get the job done. We dont rely on the PG to win games or even really produce much at all. We can go deep into the Playoffs with Blake and possible win it all.....with adjustments/improvements elsewhere. You telling me Fisher is better than Blake? Hardly, but he has a couple rings. We would be fine with Blake starting, as long as Bayless gets at least 20 mins a game. Matter of fact, unless the Hinrich rumors are true, this is how I see us starting the season.
Really? I am guessing that maybe even as soon as part way through next season, after one of Minnesota's PG develope, that Portland has the worst starting PG in the western conference. Yay we can go into every game against a conference opponent, knowing we are going to be killed at PG that night!! Wohoooo! That is what I look forward to. Lots more fouls trouble for our bigs because of bad perimeter D, and lots more of Steve Blake, jacking up a desperation 3 with 10 seconds on the clock in a playoff game! Wohooooo! I am going to drink a lot of beer at the games this year.
Sergio didn't pan out because Sergio sucks. There's a reason why he wasn't on the national team for the Olympics. He isn't better than Rubio or Calderon. Sergio plain sucks and I think people need to get over it. The guy can't score or defend, so his passing ability really doesn't mean much. Rubio is a much better defender than Sergio, and I think Rubio's passing is easily better than Serg, so it's a terrible comparison.
That might be about Rubio but I think his talent trumps Blake's known quantity. Personally, given the options I'm a Sessions guy. I would be alright with Hinrich starting until Bayless can take over. I'm pretty not OK with another year of Blake and I would go on a rampage if we retain Outlaw.
Fisher is 10x the PG that Blake is even at his current age. You cannot replace his playoff (FINALS 5x!!!) experience and he has more clutch ability in his pinky then Blake has in his entire body. Blake = anti-clutch and Fisher = clutch. I don't want Fisher on this team but I'm tired of people dragging out a bunch of low athleticism PG's who also happen to be insanely clutch to justify Steve Blake's starting job. Steve Blake is not Steve Kerr or Derek Fisher, stop making the comparison. I would be fine with Steve backing up Bayless but I don't trust Nate to give away his security blanket. If he wouldn't develop Bayless last year then why would he this year when 2nd round is the new minimum?
I don't think Sergio sucks, but Rubio is simply a better player at almost every aspect of the game. He's bigger, to boot. Rubio will be a very very good player in any system, IMO. The same could never be said for Sergio. Ed O.
