    Notes on the Event:

-- Randy Couture left the UFC with the Heavyweight Championship belt around his waist, leading the UFC to create an Interim Championship in his absence. The two men chosen to fight for that title were Tim Sylvia, who Couture had taken the title from, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, fresh off a fourth defeat of Heath Herring. Nogueira won the title and Couture returned to the UFC, but instead of having a unification bout, UFC President Dana White set up a mini-tournament to determine the undisputed champion. White fed Couture to Brock Lesnar, who defeated him via TKO in the second round of their fight, winning the heavyweight championship. Nogueira took on Frank Mir, the only man to defeat Lesnar, who also won his fight by second round TKO over Nogueira to capture the Interim title. Thus, the tournament set up a title unification rematch between Lesnar and Mir to be fought for at UFC 100. Couture and Nogueira will battle later in the summer in Portland at UFC 102.

-- Reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre always seems to face "his toughest test to date". Last time it was BJ Penn, before that it was Jon Fitch. This time it is powerful Muay-Thai striker Thiago Alves, who is on a seven-fight winning streak since losing to Fitch in 2006, five of those wins coming via TKO. Alves' three latest opponents were Josh Koscheck, Matt Hughes, and Karo Parisyan--opponents common to Alves and St. Pierre. St. Pierre has reeled-off five straight wins since being upset by Matt Serra in 2007, a loss he brutally avenged in April of 2008.

-- The Ultimate Fighter season nine coaches Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping settle their manufactured feud at UFC 100 in a middleweight bout destined to help determine the next top contender to reigning champion Anderson Silva. Henderson and Bisping coached fighters from their respective nations, The United States and The United Kingdom (England), resulting in a 3-1 win for Bisping's UK team. Two of Bisping's lightweight fighters and one welterweight fighter advanced to the series finale, set to air tonight on SpikeTV. Henderson had two unsuccessful title runs in the Light Heavyweight and Middleweight divisions, losing to then-champion Quinton Jackson and to Anderson Silva, but has since gone 2-0, defeating Rousimar Palhares and Rich Franklin. Seven of Henderson's last nine fights have ended in a decision. Michael Bisping also migrated from Light Heavyweight after suffering a loss to future champion Rashad Evans in 2007. Bisping has won all three of his fights at middleweight and is intent on chasing down Silva's title belt. Henderson will be his toughest fight to date by a country mile.

-- Jon Fitch has the opportunity to avenge AKA teammate Josh Koscheck by defeating Paulo Thiago, who emerged from Brazilian obscurity to knock out Koscheck in February at UFC 95.

-- Yoshihiro Akiyama brings intense sexiness to the UFC's middleweight division when he debuts at UFC 100 against Alan Belcher. Belcher is coming off a spoiler win over Denis Kang at UFC 93. Akiyama hasn't lost since 2005 when he fought heavyweight kickboxer Jerome LeBanner in a K-1 event, though he should've been disqualified in a fight against Kazushi Sakuraba in a K-1 event in 2006 after being caught illegally using grease on his body, a foul that made him a villain in Japan and probably helped lead to his journey overseas to the UFC.

-- Former UFC Champion Mark Coleman, who competed at UFC 10, has his second return fight for the UFC at UFC 100 some thirteen-years later. Coleman suffered a TKO defeat at the knees of Mauricio Rua at UFC 93, his fifth loss in eight fights, in his first return to the UFC since 1999. He faces former Ultimate Fighter contestant Stephan Bonnar who is also coming off a loss, having been ragdolled by Jon Jones at UFC 94 in his first fight for the UFC since a knee injury sustained in 2007.

-- A preliminary bout between Dong Huyn-Kim and Jonathan Goulet was cancelled due to an injury suffered by Goulet in training. TJ Grant replaces Goulet in the bout.

-- Preceeding the UFC 100 event is the UFC's first UFC Fan Expo to be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on July 10th and 11th.

-- UFC 100 isn't the UFC's 100th PPV event, nor is it their 100th event overall.

Limp Bizkit will not perform at the UFC 100 Fan Expo because of a contract dispute.

I'm not going to be the first one to say this, but Dana White has terrible taste in music, and Limp Bizkit can fuck off.
