The New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves by a score of 11-7. Andy Pettitte started but got a no decision. Alfredo Aceves got the win.

This was the second night in a row that A-Rod came through in a big way except tonight, he got more than one big hit. The most unbelievable thing is that he homered in the first inning on an 0-2 count. Then with the game close again in the seventh inning, the Braves, like last night, intentionally walked Mark Teixeira to get to A-Rod and again, he made them pay with a 2 run single.

What’s going on here? Did A-Rod turn into David Ortiz or something? Did he turn into Larry Bird taking a shot in the three point contest? Who does he think he is lately, Tiger Woods? What’s this world coming to? The next thing you’re going to tell me is that there is a black president.

This should not be happening. A-Rod should be the old Phil Michelson, failing at every big moment or Chris Webber calling a time out. A-Rod is not this type of player or is he?

Well, we still have the postseason, don’t we?

When the Yankees broke out into a 8-1 lead, I thought, ok, game over, this is going to be an easy one. I thought the game was locked up and it wouldn’t be as hard to win.

Enter Andy Pettitte. He wasn’t effective. He was missing location but wasn’t missing much. The thing is, he was getting hit hard and every game he gets up to insane pitch counts. In 3.2 innings, he was up to 92 pitches. Is he kidding or what? Maybe Phil Hughes should take his spot in the rotation and not Wang’s.

Andy Pettitte was also pitching in a pitcher’s stadium and was about to blow the lead. He just hasn’t been that good. What we have to remember however is that Andy Pettitte “is” old at 37 years of age and doesn’t have HGH to bail him out anymore. We want Hughes. End of story.

Still, a bad break got Andy in trouble in the 4rth inning when Gardner, Jeter and Damon let a ball drop in front of them that allowed Mark Prado to score and Casey Kotchman to be safe at first. I thought the ball was Johnny Damon’s to catch. It was terrible fielding by the Yankees once again. They’re lucky their offense showed up.

What got me is that I thought Joe Girardi left Andy Pettitte in the game one batter too long. I don’t think he should of faced Yunel Escobar especially since Andy started to look very bad and Yunel is a right-handed batter. I have a hard time criticizing Girardi because I like him so much. I want to see him succeed because he is young for a manager.

The deal is the Yankees won and get this, I have Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez on my fantasy team. Check out their boxscores and tell me I didn’t make out tonight.

Cody Ransom hit surprising well. I don’t think he’ll be a great every day player but he’ll be a very good utility infielder that could spell Jeter, Cano or A-Rod.

Player of the Game: Alex Rodriguez.

What did you make of the rumor about Girardi purposely benching A-Rod during his return to Florida so the Marlins couldn't sell more tickets for this game?

    Sounds like a bogus rumor.

    Why would he do that?

I don't buy it. Girardi wants to win more than anything. I don't think he'd put selfish feelings ahead of the Yankee goals.
