All last year I kept thinking he was going to return soon. But more crap hit the fan then you can find at the zoo, and Web never returned. Then, this summer he was supposed to all better and had talked about playing SL and now that's shot to hell. Is there something much more serious then we are being told?

Sorry if this has been covered a lot, I have been forum-free for a month due to family crisis. Just getting back now that things have calmed down, and I really don't have any clue what has been happening. Tomorrow I am going to research our new rookies, I have no friggen clue about any of them except Pendergraph. It's hard losing track of my Blazers.

No it did not. I am in Detroit now with my sisters family, my niece was deathly ill, but is finally doing better. I will be flying back tomorrow. Did I miss some news story about Hood River?

No need to apologize at all, this has actually been a somewhat under reported/talked about subject in my opinion; after listening to the blazers.com podcast a week or so ago they were talking about Martel and how "he's doing a lot of shooting and walking" -- WALKING!?!? 9 months later and he's doing a lot of walking, yikes!

At this point I think you have to say they aren't counting on him, but if he is able to go they'll consider it a boon, just because they'll have a little more depth at the 3 spot.

As far as the team holding something back or not disclosing full information there's a couple of factors I think are at play. In the first place, frankly I think recovery from feet injuries are very tough to predict, especially stress fractures of the feet because by the injury's very nature a quick healing response is unlikely until you surgically "break" and pin the bone to stimulate new bone growth. The trouble is that your metatarsals are very thin but are weight bearing, so getting the bone back to full strength can be problematic. Secondly, I think the team has learned to be very cautious and tight lipped with the public when it comes to player injuries and recovery ever since Darius Miles and Greg Oden went through their ordeals; there's so little to be gained by getting people's hopes up only to have them dashed with setbacks and creating more confusion and potentially negative impressions of a player when these recoveries don't go according to plan.

As it relates to roster decisions, trades and free agency at this point I think KP is going to be proactive and assume Martell won't be available, or at the least he won't let his status affect the kind of moves he'll make. I kind of expect at this point to see a guy like Hedo acquired and slotted as the starter with Nic set to back him up with Martel fighting his way back into the rotation (or not?) when he is available.

My goodness, first we thought it was a couple months. Then it became until the 2nd half of the season. Then it became the entire season. If this injury is still going next season, color me worried.

Feet are tricky things. Remember, he hasn't only broken it once, but twice. I would be very surprised if he started the season on the active roster. If there's a bright side to any of this, it's that Batum was given the time to show what he can do. That being said, I don't think it's a coincidence that we're actively shopping Outlaw, talking about Turkuglu AND just drafted another SF with the first pick in the draft.

...so, you're saying, may as well package TO + Webstee + YXZ for desired #1 target :dunno:

I don't think you can count on Webster ever playing again.

He may very well do so, but his injury is taking a huge amount of time to heal.

Lucky for Portland he is on the books for 3 more years.

A stress fracture is such a minor injury usually... putting the screw in his foot may have did him in.

Hopefully Yao will suffer the same fate, so when we play them again in the playoffs, we wont have the chinese man experiment to deal with!

I'll give you a hint. Stress Fractures typically take 2 to 4 weeks to heal.

I met Martell Webster and his wife, and their new daughter at their home in April. Terrific people. At that point, he told us he'd be back for the playoffs, for sure, and was hoping to be back for the end of the season. What bothered me though was that you could see he was limping noticeably. After what happened in December, I think the team is being very cautious. Martell clearly wants to play, and perhaps the greatest danger is letting him do too much. It was premature running and jumping that caused the reinjury to his foot. He broke the same bone that Bill Walton broke when he was in Portland. Not sure what we can expect from him at this point, but I wish him and his family nothing but the best.

I am sure we all wish him the best. Only Blazer shirt I bought my kids was Martell's... but even the 5 year old noticed he wasn't playing last year.

If he has an injury similar to Walton's, then I agree with the team making Martell take all the time he needs to be back at 100%.

I don't think I'd call that lucky (except for Martell)...if they had waited to resign him, they would have been able to see how the injury was not responding / how well Batum played / the potential availability of Hedo, etc...

I am really bad about using emotes for tone.

That was a sarcastic comment on the contract extension.
