    Good article by Rick Bucher:

I bet he's more of a FA target than Turkoglu. I also hope that.

    Kidd would be ideal IMO.

Especially now that he can shoot. Less years than Miller will be wanted, more of a leader, and QB. And a HELL of a leader.

My only objection to Kidd is that I really don't believe that Bayless can be made into a PG. I see Bayless as in the Steve Francis/Monta Ellis/Louis Williams athletic small scorer mold. Now, Kidd can certainly teach him some things, but just as the three I mentioned cannot be relied on to run a team, we would need a replacement starting-quality PG coming along to replace Kidd. Bring over the Finnisher! Or... get Kidd AND Sessions! Yes, that's the ticket.

I make a lot of jokes about Kidd, and his past problems. But even then I can still think of positive things he can do for this team.

    1. He would be one of those guys that you bring in and instantly gets respect from the refs because who he is.
    2. He could teach a lot of ball and would be able to general out on the floor on the fly.
    3. Fast break efficiency would definitly go up.
    4. He would probably be around just long enough to train whoever was up and coming to be the next point guard.
    5. He can still D up when he wants to, but is starting to have some problems on perimeter D against faster guards. Physical guards cannot post him up though (and lets face it, a guy named Chauncy Billups is a thorn in the Blazers side when it comes to that.)

I wonder how much the state tax in Oregon (Cowherd said it's going up to 11%) is going to affect how FAs view coming to Portland. That's a lot of money taken out of their contract every year. 11%!!! Damn...

    Kidd > Miller, IMO

If it comes down to a decision between those two, I would take Kidd in a heartbeat. He's got more experience, he's played on more winning teams, he's been to the NBA Finals, he's played on the Olympic team and had a fantastic relationship with Nate, and he's become a threat from the perimeter.

People seem to forget that when they talk about why Portland is such a great desitnation for FA's. That and the weather sucks during basketball season compared to places in the south. Now the summer is a whole different ball game. If Portland had a baseball team they might be able to attract a lot of FA's because there is no salary cap and the weather is beautiful

Kidd seems determined to stay with Dallas though. We are going to have to overpay if we want him.

Our relatively low cost of living offsets the income tax issue.

Who better to teach Bayless to be a PG than Kidd?

Low cost of living compared to where? New York, LA, Bay Area, Miami? Sure. Dallas, San Antonio, PHX, OKC, Orlando? No frigging way.

Compared to the other markets where Kidd has been rumored to go, Portland is one of the lower cost-of-living markets. Other than Atlanta ... but who wants to live in Atlanta? Mmm ... bugs and humidity.

hmmm now that is one thing I didnt think about.. getting Kidd AND Sessions.. my mind always worked on the .. "Kidd Ahead of Bayless".. or "Sessions making Bayless obsolete" wavelength. Not sure how feasible it would be. I agree that Kidd wont turn Bayless into a PG.. but of the AVAILABLE PG's I couldnt think of a better Teacher and QB for our team. Wonder what we could do to get Sessions and Kidd though, thats an interesting thought. Then when Kidd is done in two years.. Sessions starts, and then there is a 3 guard rotation of Roy, Rudy, and Sessions.

Its not about teaching. You could teach Outlaw to try and be a PG.. but it wouldnt be the best thing. Trying to get Bayless to be a PG like Kidd would be takign away from a lot of what has made him a wonderful prostpect to begin with.

You have a good point. But so do I :)

And now that I think about it, Bayless doesn't really need to be an j00ber PG. We have Roy for that.

    Anyhow...

Kidd is someone Portland is going to have to pay for five years on to get two years of production.

He's 36, for crying out loud. I think that acquiring him and counting on him to either push us over the top in the short run or to give us more than a year or two of greater-than-Blake production is a mistake...

I was just kind of wondering what gave you that idea. I saw an interview with Kidd the other day where he directly mentioned his relationship with Nate McMillan and how Portland and one other spot besides Dallas (can't remember where) were on his mind for a new contract.
