Maybe it's because I've always appreciated that aspect of the game more, I hate seeing talented big men struggle with injuries. Yao' health struggles over the years have always frustrated me (even though I have no rooting interest tied to him). Oden's recent ones have too.

    Hope he recovers well.

Yea they are. I feel bad for the guy. I don't like players lose their career to injury. Even if they are beating the Blazers, I would rather attempt to beat them with their best players, than without them.

Re: OT Yao to possibly miss next season and beyond

Why I want Artest more than Hedo?
Artest is still in his prime, would be cheaper, better defender while still be a decent scoring threat, heart's BRoy, will provide the needed nastiness/toughness Roy wants, and is younger.
Trade for Hinrich and we'd have the best defensive team in the league.

Yeah thats how I feel. I felt so bad at the game when Deke went down. Seeing someone's liveleyhood and passion just snatched away from them like that. Hope Yao recovers sooner than thought.

Foot problems are the scariest of all. I'm happy that Oden apparently had no other problems with his foot after the avulsion fracture. I'll take a knee injury over broken feet every time if given the choice for my big man. As a Blazer fan, times infinity.

I agree that I've hated to watch Yao struggle through all these injuries.

On a side note - this article makes me even more confident that my concerns about Martell might not be entirely paranoid...

I am starting to wonder whether there is a certain size that you just can't take the beating of NBA ball. That is a lot of weight going through punishment on a nightly basis. The only players of that size that lasted any time in the NBA were all skinny as rails. Guys like Manute Bol. All of the others that had a normal sized frame, instead of a 7'6" travis outlaw type frame, have foot injuries up the wazoo.

Holy cow!!! Poor guy. I hope he recovers.

But hopefully we can pry Artest away from from Houston now.

good point.. although I wonder if those rail guys played the minutes Yao does. I remember Bol, but I was too young and didnt pay attention to stats. and I dont think Gheorge Muresan (sp?) played heavy minutes.. I could be wrong though, I am just guessing.

In light of Yao possibly being out for next year...

I am sure Houston would want a big man now.

I love Joel. He is one of my favorite Blazers. BUT... if we had to trade Joel to get Artest. Straight across. Would you do it? This is assuming they re-sign him at a rate close enough to trade for Joel straight across.

I am not sure I would do it. As much as I want Artest, I think Joel is more valuable. They say you never trade a small for a big, unless its an amazing PG.

I'd go as far as .400 almost.. although they play good d which always keeps you in games. But if they lose Artest too.. they need to Blow everything up and get what they can for the Battier's and maybe even Brooks'
