I've been calling this for who knows how long
and been getting blasted on this board for looking past Yao and arguing against giving him a big contract

all the responses basically say the same thing,....
We should look past his proness for injury and sign him to a max contract......

maybe some people will wake up. Yao can't be relied upon

My theory, this is being reported so Yao doesn't have to play for China injured again and then rejoin the Rockets when he's fully recovered during the second half of next season.

Its a damn shame that he'll never be healthy. If he could just stay healthy, the Rockets could be so damn scary.

Doubt it. I remember the Rockets and Yao saying that he wouldn't be playing for China this offseason before his playoff injury. That was already in the plans. That the Rockets are reportedly aggressively going after Rubio (rumor is that they offered Brooks and Battier for him) suggests that they are looking to rebuild around a much younger core.

Yao would be obligated to play for China if healthy.

Offering Brooks & Battier for Rubio isn't very aggressive IMO. Other teams have offered a lot more and have been turned down.

I still think Yao will be able to return at some point next season. If they did plan on rebuilding this offseason would make the most sense to get started. They can sign & trade Artest for cheaper, younger talent and/or picks and make a move to unload McGrady for the same.

Sorry about Yao, that's just heartbreaking to hear. I think the Rockets have some pieces they could use to rebuild with though, and T-Mac has a nice expiring contract.

ABC News reported the injury as career threatening.

    Geez, I hope not.
