Not talking about blowing the team up right now just Not resigning Yao or TMac beyond their current contract Older by a few months, who cares. How often has he been injured. Yao has a problem. His feet, the left one specifically won't hold up Great player but is he worth 20+mil with his injury situation. Say Yao goes down late in the season again next year. Will you still say its not time to look past the Yao era? Rockets need a Center, 2 in fact
yao isn't going anywhere and he shouldn't go anywhere. yes, it sucks that yao broke his foot. but if anything this playoffs has shown just how dangerous of a weapon that yao is that teams have to completely alter their defensive plans to hope to contain him which gives great looks to everyone else on the team. the rockets need to continue trying to find the right group of guys to play around yao who are capable and willing to play through yao but also are able to take advantage of the opportunities he creates when teams design their defenses solely to keep yao from getting the ball.
Point exactly Build around Yao, only to have him go down at the end of the season. not to mention having a huge contract on the books. Is Yao worth the 18-20mil from a team standpoint? I love Yao, when he's on the floor. Nobody can control injuries but the last 4 years have not been good for the guy in that regard. He lasted the season this year thank god but goes down in the playoffs, and it wasn't a freak injury it is just his body not being able to hold up Relying on him or McGrady to take us to a championship is just not something I would depend on.
If we lose today MOREY WILL: -Let T-Mac's contract sit there. No way will he take $23 million "junk" for him. If he wants to play his contract/final season, let him. -Award Yao his max contract, simple. -Sign Artest for or less than $55 million, 5 years. If someone pays him more than that, tough break. This team is perfect the way it is. I know it's getting extremely redundant, but if Yao is healthy next season could be our year.
letting yao go to build around brooks, scola, and landry is not a way to win a championship. tmac isn't in the equation anymore. he's done. if he can come back and be effective, i'm sure the rockets would love to have him but i'd expect the rockets to treat that situation like he's done. with yao, he's a great player. he's been hurt. his latest injury isn't going to even require surgery, so that probably is a good thing. if he stops playing for china, maybe he'll hold up better. either way though, continuing to build the team around yao and needing him to be healthy at the end of the year is a much better way to try to contend than to get rid of him to build around brooks, landry, and scola. i'm not sure i agree with bringing artest back. he's had a couple good games this postseason. he's also taken a ton of horrible shots and made a lot of bad decisions. he also is never going to have the respect of the refs meaning that we can count on him getting techs, flagrants, and ejections he doesn't deserve at some point during the season and it's magnified even more in a physical playoff series. i definitely wouldn't give him 5 years for 55 million or a deal anything close to that longterm or for that much money. in all honesty, i probably let him walk and look for other options.
Let Artest walk? That's ridiculous. How are you guys going to replace him? I know Ron Ron isn't the perfect player, but with T-Mac's future in doubt, how will you guys replace his production? You're over the cap, I certainly don't see how you would be able to replace Ron in free agency with the MLE. Tracy's expiring may look nice, but realistically I don't see any team who would be willing to trade away proven talent just to clear cap space. Either way I doubt any team offers him more than 11 mill this offseason.
Artest is worth 5 years, $55 million. The current NBA market is does overpay, but I believe that is fair market value. You have guys like Corey Maggette snagging 5 year $50 million dollar deals and Josh Smith as well. This team would not have closed out the Blazers in game 6 without Artest going off. He plays Battier-esque defense and he scores as well. What more you could ask for? Better shot selection? No problem. Don't let a guy like him walk for nothing. He did cost us 2 first round draft picks. This is his last deal, so he will want a long-term commitment.
artest is not worth 5 years, 55 million. i personally wouldn't sign artest to more than a two year deal and nothing more than an average of 8 mil per year. if he wants more, let him walk. not a huge loss. get a smarter player who isn't going to waste as many possessions and is more reliable in their decision making.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah Scola Landry and Brooks aren't the team to build around PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT I need to find another board GO ROCKETS
you don't build around scola, landry, and brooks. those are players that you put around someone else. two games doesn't change that.
Thank you. If we get a Rip Hamilton, or Ray Allen this team could be like the 03-04 Pistons. Smart role players complimenting smart shooters well.
Artest could be signed above fair market and traded. Lakers would probably offer Odom at $44 million 4 years.
building around Injury prone Superstars is better? genius idea I'm not mentioning any players not on the Rockets NOW, that we should build the team with I'm talking about the current roster and the guys that Should be held on to and McGrady and Yao at 17-20+ mil a year is just not the way I would go There is 40+ mil sitting on the sidelines during the biggest run in 12 years, and nobody can say that their injuries couldn't have been predicted....... Not freak accidents, it's the wear and tear on these guys catching up
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-yaorockets062909&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Rockets could lose Yao for season—or longer Go back down through this thread and tell me that I was just plain wrong,.....please And to those talking down on me for looking past Yao, you still thinking about giving him a max deal now You can't build around hurt players, especially big men with bad feet
feel free to do that. i look forward to making the playoffs with a team built around brooks, scola, and landry.
I'll be rooting for them You just sit and wait for Yao to come back......sounds like a great plan don't forget to campaign the club to give him his max contract too
