If we can not make contact with free agents until tonight at 9:01 pacific time, how the hell does Jason Kidd have a scehdueled meeting with Donnie Walsh and Mike D'antoni tomorrow morning when he is technically still under contract with the Mavericks? I mean, Cuban is flying to New York to meet with him before the Knicks do? How can any of this be possible and how are the Knicks not tampering with a player that is not yet a free agent?

Umm, he's not talking about time zones. He's asking how can there be a prearranged meeting already when there's a no contact rule in place.

Yes I do. But the article states that he has a meeting already set in the morning with the Knicks. My question is how can it be possible to have a meeting set with a player that is not yet a free agent. That would be tampering IMO. Thats what Im asking.

Per Cuban's Twitter, Cuban's on the way to NY too? I'll have to find the tweet later.

This all seems so odd. My guess is Dallas and NY are working on a sign-and-trade of Nate Robinson (makes more sense) or David Lee to Dallas for Kidd?

    Then it's not tampering.

Can teams talk to agents? Or can agents send out something saying their player will be somewhere at 12:01?

That I would agree with as far as not being tampering but the article stated that they would meet with Kidd and try to sign him to the mid level exception or work out a sign and trade. The fact that they already have a meeting with Kidd would be strictly for the purpose of them signing him as a free agent otherwise they wouldnt be talking with Kidd but instead Cuban. In any event contact with Kidd and the fact that Kidd is flying to New York already IMO is tampering.

Since Cuban is going too, I doubt its gonna be considered tampering. Probably a sign and trade. Damn! Now the Lakers won't get Kidd!!

Agents represent the players but I would think they too would create violations if they were prearranging deals to meet with other teams while still being under contract to another team. Besides, there would be a lot out of work agents from teams pissed off that they took their player elsewhere, especially if that team wanted to resign that player.

Should be more focused on Ariza and Odom.

Whatever man. The article never says Cuban arranged any meeting, just that Kidd was meeting with the Knicks. Thats why I asked the question. If you don't like the question you dont have to respond.

Yeah, I 'm already confident that we can get Ariza and Odom, though I'm kinda nervous about the offers Ariza is gonna get.

BTW, Tampering is a big deal, ask the T-Wolves happens when you tamper with a player.

I believe that the rules say you can only start negotiationg at the deadline. To believe you can't set up an appointment ahead of time with an agent in these modern times, is asinine at best.

The Joe Smith thing wasn't a "Meeting with the player before the deadline" tamper job, it was an "under the table against the rules of the CBA" job.

Technically, it could be considered the same thing in terms of violating the CBA.
